I have chosen this Research question. It may change a little but that's the main idea.
To detail it more, this is about understanding how art feeds graphic design. In a working context we rarely produce graphic design work
without using artwork and since most of the time we produce artwork for commercial purposes and to convey a message, it is quite
important to know about art theory and the meaning of art, if there is any.

I have started reading books on the philosophy of art and art in general. There is a lot to read but I am really pleased as I had not really
read anything too theoretical about art before and it is truly interesting. These are the different views and theories developed
throughout time - some philosophers and artists saw art as representation, others as expression, or narrative, or purely form. They are
the common theories found in books but I watched a documentary called 'Bomb it' a few days ago and got very interesting insights
into what art may mean to people. The documentary is about graffiti and street art and, those who do it described their art or action in
many different ways - here are just a few examples:
- as a way of life
- as a reflection of what is happening in your life
- as a reflection of the world you live in
- as identity
- as therapy- as survival
- as excitement
- as performance
- as addiction
- as power
- as urban interaction, war against advertising and its visual pollution
- as a statement

This is an installation made in the
drawing studio by Amy and Catriona.
We were supposed to draw or paintit. There was no way I was going to
represent all these shapes and folds
faithfully from the distance so I
decided to do this.

I believe this illustrates 'art
as expression'.
I thought I would do a rough
sketch of the installation
then let my imagination do
the rest. Throughout the
process I wrote my
thoughts next to the
drawing, which I really
enjoyed.
So, technically this is
rubbish (lol) but I enjoyed
myself and I like the result,
visually speaking.
So is there a question here?
When Francis Bacon (for
example) painted, was he
concerned with the 'looks'
of his artwork or was there
just a lot going on in hishead and on the canvas?

Coming to the work I'm doing for my Honours Project
It's simple, I've decided to brand an artist, more precisely to brand his teaching.
This is my friend Benoist Chapel who specialises in porcelain painting.

This is him teaching. He's very popular with his students, because of his talent
but also because of the kind of person he is and the way he teaches.

That's him doing ball-pen drawing.
He's been doing this for about five years now and I personally love it.

Some of the paintings I did with him.
Sorry about the picture quality - these were taken with a non-smart phone!

This was his signature/symbol a few years ago.
This particular one is done with ink so it looks quite sharp.
Lately we worked on making his symbol a logo then
he drew a loser version of it and I produced this,
which we have been using on business cards, flyers and posters.
