Date: 1.Outubro.2013 The Virginia Social Science Journal (ISSN 0507-1305) is a refereed journal published by the Virginia Social Science Association. It seeks to encourage research in the social sciences. Publication is not confined to Virginia-related research nor is it confined to scholars working in Virginia; the Journal is interested in all manuscripts of interest and concern to social scientists. The Journal routinely publishes papers in the areas of anthropology, business, economics, education, geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology. 2) We are pleased to announce the inauguration of a new online academic journal dealing with Talmudic and Rabbinic literature - Oqimta: Studies in Talmudic and Rabbinic Literature. The journal is scheduled to appear annually, and is accessed free. Scholars are invited to submit articles in Hebrew or English. Long articles and studies offering editions of primary sources are welcome. Short notes and reviews of new books will appear as well. We are pleased to invite applications to a five-day research workshop and a two-day international conference on Jewish-Gentile relations in specific local contexts of former Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary during and after World War II (1939-1989). Both events will be held at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague. We seek scholars and graduate students from various disciplines – including but not limited to history, sociology, political science, cultural studies and anthropology – who investigate the complexity of these relations, and their transformation, from perspectives beyond the traditional approach that deals purely with politics. The workshop will consist of five days of intensive discussions on individual research topics. Workshop participants will be required to submit their papers in writing by April 30, 2014. A digital reading pack will be distributed to all workshop participants electronically; hard copies will be provided at the event. At the workshop, each participant will have approximately 45 minutes to introduce the paper, which will be followed by one hour discussion among the participants. Workshop participants will include established scholars, who will outline the topic under consideration, as well as young academics and graduate students in order to discuss the outlined research questions and enhance new methodological approaches. Workshop participants are expected to attend all five days of the workshop. Advanced graduate students are encouraged to apply. A two-day international conference will be linked to the workshop. Papers will be presented by a mixture of workshop guest lecturers and academics solicited through this open call for papers. The conference will be open to the public. We invite papers on the following topics (however also other topics will be considered):
public / popular responses to official anti-Semitism resistance and rescue postwar responses to the Holocaust representation in film and literature transformation of the official/popular anti-Semitism during the early Communist rule we particularly welcome papers that offer comparative (temporal or spatial) perspectives

2) Colóquio sobre a Batalha de Azamor Local: Castelo de Vila Viçosa Data: 1.Setembro.2013 Link: http://www.fcbraganca.pt/eventos/tematicas/azamor.pdf Comemoram-se em 2013 os 500 anos da Batalha de Azamor. Este confronto teve lugar a 28 e 29 de Agosto de 1513 em Azamor, Marrocos, onde participaram portugueses contra marroquinos. Azamor, dependente do Rei de Fez, embora gozando de grande autonomia, prestava vassalagem ao rei D. João II já desde 1486. As desavenças geradas entre o governador Moulay Zayam, que se recusou pagar o tributo e preparava um exército para se defender, ocasionaram o envio da Armada portuguesa àquela cidade no dia 15 de Agosto de 1513, por ordem de D. Manuel I. A 1 de Setembro, o exército, liderado por D. Jaime, quarto Duque de Bragança, tomava a cidade sem resistência.

Funding is available for a number of Scholarships. Funding Opportunities • Domestic students are encouraged to apply for the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA). Further details available here. • ICS offers a number of competitively awarded scholarships for students of exceptional research potential. The scholarships include a tax-free stipend of AUD $34,653 per annum for the period of three years (indexed annually) and a funded place in the doctoral degree programme. Outstanding international students may also be offered a tuition fee waiver. • Self-funded candidates are also welcome to apply. 3) The Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) is an Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Heidelberg. The HCTS now welcomes applications (beginning on March 1st, 2014, or September 1st, 2014): 3 Visiting Fellowships are available to scholars worldwide. Building on the structures established by the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context,” the HCTS is open to scholars especially in the Humanities and the Social Sciences. Founded in April 2013, the HCTS assembles scholars from all over the world to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue and to enhance their understanding of transcultural processes. The Centre offers a Master’s and a Doctoral Programme in Transcultural Studies. In addition to five permanent fellows (the HCTS professorships in Transcultural Studies), a group of senior and junior fellows is invited each year to join the HCTS to pursue their own research and to engage in discussions with other fellows as well as graduate students around a common theme. Fellows can choose to be in residence in Heidelberg for a period ranging from between six months to two academic years.

In 2014-15, fellows at the HCTS are invited to pursue their own research, with a suggested focus on one of the following three themes: 1. Detours—Mediated Circulations of Knowledge 2. Transcultural Exchanges in a Pre-modern World 3. Urban Spaces Researchers working on all historical periods, all regions of the world and from all relevant disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply and to develop new, innovative ways to pursue their research from a transcultural perspective. Group applications are welcome. Fellowships are awarded to scholars employed within or outside the University who have demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and exhibit unusual intellectual promise. Fellowships will be awarded on the strength of a candidate's proposed research project, the relationship of the project to the programme themes, the candidate's scholarly record, and the candidate's ability to contribute to intellectual life at the HCTS. What we offer Fellows benefit from the finest research facilities, the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary and international community of first-rate scholars, and an excellent digital humanities unit. All Fellows will be offered the support of research assistance and library services. Senior Fellows will receive funds for the partial reduction of their teaching load (equivalent to 1/2 “Lehrstuhlvertretung”). Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend to make up for losses in (sabbatical) salary and for additional costs incurred by their stay in Germany. Junior Fellows will receive a budget to facilitate their research. Fellowship terms Fellows must be in residence in Heidelberg during their fellowship so that they can interact with one another and participate actively in the regular working meetings. Fellows are also invited to attend other events at the HCTS. Application Procedure The application deadline is October 1, 2013.
