The Industrial Laser Processing Conference (JNPLI) offers an overview of the latest innovations and recently
implemented applications in this field. The conferences program contains thematic sessions and a few opportunities
for networking.
The 2012 JNPLI conference will occure on 28th and 29th November at the Mulhouse Exhibition Centre. For the first
time, this event is organized in parallel with an industrial trade fair: Espace Laser. The aim is to combine the attraction
of the two events to create synergy and so attract a larger number of visitors. This will be a unique opportunity to
combine technical intelligence with a visit to this exhibition dedicated to new manufacturing techniques.

ALPhANOV specializes in the prototyping of nanoparticles in liquid by laser ablation
ALPhANOV created for the first time to our knowledge upconverting phosphor nanoparticules via PLAL. The infrared-
to-visible upconversion materials hold strong potential for fluorescent labeling and bio-marking.

Nanoparticles have attracted much attention due to their unique properties, for
fundamental research but also for industrial applications. A significant number of methods
have been proposed for the synthesis of nanoparticles: most of these methods rely on
chemical synthesis.
Another synthesis method that is gaining ground for NP production is pulsed laser ablation
in liquids (PLAL). This method relies on a top-down process whereby the laser is used to
fragment a solid substrate of macroscopic size down to nano-sized objects. This method has
been reported to produce stable NPs in various solutions without the need for additional
chemicals, making them more compatible with biomedical applications. Another advantage
of PLAL lies in its simplicity. Furthermore, PLAL can be implemented to produce NPs of
different nature and from different materials with more or less the same protocol.

New in september 2012 : protective shield
We would like to introduce to you the new protective shield curtain YLC-2. The YLC-2 is soft, flexible and transparent,
(red), so it is very easy to cut according to the required size and you can see through it. The laser curtain YLC-2 is
slightly adhesive. You can easily place the laser curtain onto a transparent panel, glass or plexiglass window and then
push out any air bubbles which may exist between the curtain and the panel to maximize the performance of the
product.

GM Prod is a leading company for the production of micro-parts by additive manufacturing of
metal powders. This technology offers an alternative solution when traditional manufacturing
can no longer respond to the economic product development. It allows to product a direct part
from its 3D digital representation by stacking successive layers of metal powders. At each pass, a
laser beam is merged sections previously defined by CAD. This technology is suitable for
producing functional prototypes but also the series production of complex shape. Many
companies in the medical, aerospace, military, tooling, watches fields have already taken benefit
from advantages offered by this technology.

New : the LEW, a micro-machine for laser micro-welding

Start-up specialized in lasers, industrial optics and traceability QiOVA relies on its expertise in
light/matter interaction to develop new ultrafast and high precision laser marking tools for
many different materials (metals, polymers, leather, glass, etc.) in many different industrial
applications. Compatible with most existing laser systems, those tools provide useful
capabilities such as :
This technology as been selected for “La Vitrine de
l’innovation” (23th to 25th October 2012), a challenge
annually organised during the OPTO fair and focused on
French R&D teams innovations.
PRC has released his new range of low cost and minimum maintenance CO2 laser
sources : electrical consumption is 50 % lower compared to other CO2 lasers ! The
new Gas Enhancement Module (GEM) reduces gas consumption with 60 to 80 %.
Further, PRC’s laser technology in general (resonator, cavity, electronical control, … )
has been improved to further reduce the maintenance and operating costs to a strict
minimum !
All PRC lasers can be easily integrated and embarked onto any kind of OEM-machine for
cutting, welding and surface treatment , thus allowing easy designing of very flexible and
big sized machines.

ROFINs new EasyMark stands out due to its versatility and modularity. The compact laser
marking system with its modular design can be operated as laser class 1 and 4 systems by
removing side panels and can easily be integrated into production lines. Then It can also
accommodate long and bulky work pieces and becomes perfectly suited for use with
automatic part feeding solutions such as conveyors.
Latest diode-pumped or fiber laser technology and powerful software makes it the ideal all-
in-one laser marking system for a wide variety of applications. The lifting door (optionally
automatized) provides easy access to the entire working chamber. When the door is closed,
the process can be monitored from the large inspection window. The system is combined
with a camera and pilot laser for exact part positioning within the 120mmx120mm marking
area (optionally 180mmx180mm).
The standard configuration comes with a laptop (WINDOWS 7), VLM software, programmable
z-axis, pilot laser and camera observation. It will be available in October.

New 3D robot laser for welding and marking
Laser applications represents an ever growing field in R&D since a few years and laser welding required intensive
developments for joining of plastics in order to achieve versatile solutions for all colours. It is now possible to weld
opaque or even transparent polymers. During Espace Laser exhibition*, Treffert will present its new 3D robot laser: at
1064nm it performs both laser marking and welding thanks to its 6 axes articulated sytem and clamping head.
