Lesson 3: Strand: Oral language. Strand Unit: Emotional and Imaginative development through language; receptiveness to language. The children will recall previously learned rhymes; complete actions to go with the rhymes. Mixture of math rhymes and English rhymes (used as discretionary time on timetable) Rhymes based on water for this week.

Lesson 1: Strand: Measure. Strand Unit: Volume / Capacity. Free play; children explore filling and emptying containers and make conclusions. Comparing; predict and guess whether amount of rice/water will fit in the other container. Lining up containers from the one that holds the most to the one that holds the least. (SI but JI will take part with differentiated worksheets at the end of active learning).

Lesson 2: Strand: Measure. Strand Unit: Volume / Capacity. Discussing more and Less. Sorting containers by their capacity. (SI and JI with differentiated worksheets at the end of active learning). Pupils guess whether the container holds more or less than a standard measure i.e. shampoo bottle. Devise ways to test their estimate by pouring from one container to the other. (cup, yogurt carton, bucket, jug). Sort into two sets. (SI). Worksheets.

Lesson 3: Strand: Measure. Strand Unit: Volume / Capacity. Non-standard units of measure (SI) JI will participate with differentiated worksheets. How many times will a cup take to fill larger container; children’s predictions. Record how many unifix cubes it takes. Compare results with predictions. Repeat with different measures. (JI) worksheets.

Lesson 4: Strand: Measure. Strand Unit: Volume / Capacity. Math Games class; teacher will use IWB and interactive games with the children; songs and rhymes.
