A Nation At Risk: Improving the quality of teacher education is a central goal of the educational reform movement (USA, National Commission On Educational Excellence, 1983)
The teaching profession has a high status in Finland. Teachers are also autonomous in their work, as the system is based on trust rather than control
We must develop teachers who are able to undertake greater responsibilities as they are at the forefront of educating our youth (NIE, Singapore, 2008)
The goal of the 1995 Education Reform was to train excellent teachers who could meet the challenges of increasing assertive students, the information age, globalization, and the changing field itself.
Moslems were urged to seek knowledge from the cradle to grave: “Seek knowledge, even if it be in China, for the pursuit of knowledge is obligatory for every Moslem, man or woman”. Such sayings by the Prophet reveal two very essential principles of modern education – the concept of life-long education and that of the democratization of education by making it available equally to men and to women .
THE ROLE OF EDUCATION AND TEACHERS ARE UNDENIABLE
If we educate a boy, we educate an individual. If we educate a girl, we educate the whole family but if we educate a teacher, we actually educate the whole community. Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions. (Unknown)
“If a teacher graduates today and teaches for 30 years, and their students live for 70 years, teacher education programs are actually preparing teachers for 22nd century learners” (Crag Kissock, Education Week, March 2014)
The Nobel prizes have been awarded to five Argentinians: Carlos Saavedra Lamas (1936) and Adolfo Pérez Esquivel (1980) for peace, Bernardo Houssay (1947) for medicine, Luis Federico Leloir (1970) for chemistry and César Milstein (1984) for biology.
If kids come to us from strong, healthy functioning families, it makes our job easier. If they do not come to us from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our job more important. -Barbara Colorose

The man (or woman) who can make hard things easy is the educator. —Ralph Waldo Emerson
The test of a good teacher is not how many questions he can ask his pupils that they will answer readily, but how many questions he inspires them to ask him which he finds it hard to answer. -Alice Wellington Rollins

WHAT IS TRANSFORMATION:“Transformation is therefore viewed as a complex, multifaceted and integrated process of continuous institutional renewal in all aspects of its functionality (academic, administrative and support service), in an ongoing effort to represent excellence, through diversity, with the aim of achieving its vision and mission towards providing liberating education”
(Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University)
WHY TRANSFORMATION IS NEEDED: 21ST CENTURY TEACHING
· Greater Need for Education in Society and Economy· Higher Standards for Teaching & Learning· More Diverse Students with Greater Educational Needs· Greater Expectations of Schools for Ensuring Success
“If there is no transformation inside each of us, all the structural change in the world will have no impact on our institution”
(Peter Block in PJ Meyer & R Slechta, 2002)

TEACHING IS THE ONE PROFESSION THAT CREATES ALL OTHER PROFESSIONS
THE POSITIVE TEACHER PLEDGE I pledge to be a positive teacher and positive influence on
my fellow educators, students and school. I promise to be positively contagious and share more smile,
laughter, encouragement and joy with those around me. I wow to stay positive in the face of negatively. When I am surrounded by pessimism, I will choose
optimism. When I feel fear, I will choose faith. When I want to hate, I will choose love. When I want to be bitter, I will choose to get better. When I experience a challenge, I will look for opportunity to
learn and grow and help others grow. When I faced with adversity, I will find strength. When I experience setback, I will be resilient. When I meet failure, I will fail forward and create a future
success. With vision, hope and faith, I will never give up and will
always find ways to make a different. I believe my best days are ahead of me, not behind me. I believe I’m here for a reason and my purpose is greater
than my challenge. I believe that being positive not only makes me better, it
make my students better. So today and every day I will be positive and strive to make
a positive impact on my students, school and the world.(Jon Gordon, STAR 16 Mei 2015)
