Ser and Estar1. In Spanish there are two verbs that mean
“to be” They are ser and estar. These verbs have very different uses. They are not interchangeable. Ser is used to express a trait or characteristic that does not change.
2. Estar is used to express a temporary condition or state.
Ser and EstarThe verb ser is used to express where
someone or something is from.Estar is used to express where someone or
something is located.The verb ser is also used for time.The verb estar used in the present
progressive form.

The present progressive is used in Spanish to express and action that is presently going on, an action in progress. To form the present progressive most verbs in Spanish drop the ending of the infinitive and add –ando or –iendo to the verb depending on whether they are –ar or –er.-ir.
