Block Scheduling allows: • 1 ½ to 2 periods to be combined • English and reading classes merge thus Indiana English and Reading standards are married for greater impact
• Sustained focus in the classroom allowing for differenZaZon of instrucZon and student products
Ø Block scheduling for English and Reading was piloted at PHMS during the 2013-‐2014 school year and the feedback from students and teachers has been overwhelmingly posiZve.
• With the success of the English and Reading block scheduling, PHMS is looking into creaZng a block schedule for math. ImplementaZon to be determined, we will keep you posted!
• Two levels for 6th Grade Math: Math 6 Math 6H
• Students receive 6th grade standards that prepare them for 6th grade ISTEP
• Students will be prepared to take 9th grade Algebra 1
• Students will be on track to receive an Academic Honors Diploma in high school
• High Achieving Math 6 students will be recommended to take Math 7H as 7th graders
• Placement determined by 5th grade teacher recommendaZon, end of year assessment, and ISTEP and/or Acuity scores
• Accelerated curriculum to prepare students for 6th grade ISTEP
• Students will be on track to receive an Academic Honors Diploma in high school
• End of year Assessment to determine 7th grade placement in Math 7H or Algebra 1
• Students must pass a test regarding EVSC Netbook guidelines
• Netbooks will be issued within the first week of school
• AdministraZon determines when students use netbooks outside of school
