WHAT IS A SPORT? Sport is all forms of usually competitive
physical activity which aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while
providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators.
KINDS OF SPORTS Hundreds of sports exist, from two
participants to those with hundreds.
Either in teams or competing as individuals.
INDIVIDUAL SPORTS• An individual
sport is a sport in which participants compete as individuals
• Examples include running, judo, skiing and swimming.
TEAM SPORTS Players work together to accomplish an
ultimate goal which is usually to win.
Examples are basketball, rugby and volleyball.
THE OLYMPIC GAMES• Originated in ancient Greece
3,000 years ago in honor of the god Zeus.
• Were revived in the late 19th century.
• They have become the world’s most important sporting competition.
• They’re held every four years.
