Assembly Report Raise funds to match the Gates Challenge
Improve the profile of Rotary
Recruit new Rotarians
Great collective success in 2009-2010 with over £100,000 likely to be raised. However over half of the
Clubs likely to miss the 30/6/10 target amount
Current feedback suggests that few, if any, new Rotarians came out of the project. Needs to be a more
overt part of the 2010-2011 programme.
Good use of local media outlets but mostly print rather than radio or TV. Variable quality of information
handed out to the public. National media coverage was poor.
8/10
5.5/10
2.5/10
Six self-styled ‘geriatric Geronimos’ – with an
aggregate age of over 360 years – will take a leap of faith
on 22nd May over Perthshire’s Strathallan
Airfield in a team tandem skydive for three good
causes. You can help by sponsoring a
brave skydiver.

What Next?
What Next?
Complete projects
Maximise the PR benefit of the completed projects
Plan for RY 2010-2011
Share ideas and experiences
30 Clubs still to let me know what was done
What Next?
Feedback – Positive Good local contact with all ages
Positive promotion of Rotarian activities
Raised public awareness
Strengthened links with schools
Good banners, posters, stickers, wrist bands etc.
Good corporate support e.g. Tesco and Sainsbury
Collaboration between Clubs
Collaboration with Interact Clubs
Good local press coverage
What Next?
Feedback – Negative× Limited “national” publicity
× More posters needed especially with simple message
× Confused titles – Thanks For Life vs Polio Plus vs End Polio Now vs Purple Pinkie
× Lead time too short especially with schools
× Variable message from Tesco & Sainsbury
× Message affected by other events e.g. Haiti earthquake appeal
× Time of the year
What Next?
Forward to 2010-2011
Objectives:
• Raise funds for End Polio Now
• Feature the End Polio Now programme in the media and local publicity
• Advertise the work of Rotary as a service organisation to the general public and potential new members
What Next?
Forward to 2010-2011General Issues:
1. Maximise Club and Rotarian involvement – educate about polio and world humanitarian issues
2. Active involvement in the polio programme through participation in NIDs
3. Need effective promotional material which explains the humanitarian issue and Rotary’s role, and invites interest in the wider work of Rotary
4. Work with schools the planning should start well before the summer break
5. Purple pinkie events worked well, but many clubs need more specific operational guidance
What Next?
Forward to 2010-2011Challenges for District & Club Teams:
1. Get better national and regional media exposure
2. Develop more eye-catching publicity material
3. Coordinate the supply of material including wrist bands, lapel stickers, posters
4. Draw up a purple pinkie handbook, based on experience of clubs
5. Coordinate overall policy in collaboration with the RIBI and District 1010 team – fix a date for district roll-out – preferably away from Red Nose Day
6. Consider a high profile event or association
What Next?
Forward to 2010-2011
Raising money to meet the Gates Challenge OK but:
Are Rotarians fit for purpose to tell the Rotary story ?
