1. INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT a. Project Description The name of this project is “Home”. This project proposes to create a commercial area in the land of 3, 500 meter squared (70m x 50m). It is located in Jalan PJS 5/28, Pusat Dagangan Petaling Jaya Selatan, Selangor, Malaysia. This project involves the construction of the commercial building. The area of the commercial building is 810 meter squared (30m x 27m). It is a 3-‐floor building and it consists of a hypermarket: ground floor selling agricultural products and food, 2nd floor selling clothes and 3rd floor selling housing items. There are also some parking lots available around the commercial building for the people that want to shop there. This proposal is estimate to be approved and signed by November 20, 2015. The construction process would take about 12 months.

b. Site Analysis and Observation
Observation of the site includes how it is abandoned and that it is securely closed. It has a fence around it to prevent people from going in. But in the site, the area is covered with mostly grass and trees.

The site is ideal for the commercial area due to the following site analysis:
• There are many residential areas around there. Many houses are located on the eastern side of the site.
• There are also some apartments located on the southern and northern part of the area.
• Northern part of the site has many blocks of commercial buildings: small shops, restaurants, pharmacies, hotels and mini market.
• There are already many parking lots available near there, so car parks don’t need to be constructed inside the proposed commercial area.
• Not much pedestrian path is available around the site. • Many bus pass by the area of the site. • There is a lake located about 40 meter away from the site.

c. Project Concepts and Ideas After conducting the site analysis, the project plan is to construct a commercial area where residents can go and shop for home materials such as food, clothing and home furniture. The concept and ideas of “Home” are:
• There will be a wall surrounding the land. • There is 2 entrance to go in the area. If residents want to come in by car and park inside the area, they have to pass through the
entrance barrier. A payment have to be made in order to park inside the commercial area. Another entrance is only for pedestrians. This is for people that walked to the hypermarket and it just have gate door.
• There are not many parking inside the area due to many parking already outside the area. So only 26 parking lots. • Shrubs and shading trees are located in front of the car parks to give some shading and some nature element. • The front, and 2 sides of the commercial building have a pedestrian walkway. • On the pedestrian walkway, there are some benches to for shoppers to sit on and wait for their family. • There are also a rest area on the left side of the building. Benches are provided as well as some shading trees. No vehicles are
allowed to pass by here. • The back of the building is only allowed for trucks that delivered the products. There will be a fenced to cover that part. Trucks
have their own entrance. They also have their own parking lots as well as a big dumpster. • Dustbins are available at the edge part of the building in front. • The exit is located near the back of the building. • The roofs of the building are glass. • There is a tile flooring for the pedestrian to walk on and push their trolleys on.

3. Project Benefits
• Residents can gain benefit from this by saving them time from traveling far to grocery shop. They can just go by walking if their home is near.
• Shoppers might go to near restaurants near there and the restaurants would gain profit. • The space of the land is perfectly utilized. • Not much parking lot is available in the land therefore it won’t be too crowded in the commercial area. • The soft scape and hardscape elements give a nice atmosphere and make the area look more developed with nature.

b. Tasks Architect:
• Have to translate the site requirements, create a concept and designs and then make it into reality. • Ascertaining and interpreting the Jurupat Sdn Berhad’s requirement. • Coordinate necessary environmental and engineering service to building design. • Clarify client’s requirement in a building project because of their knowledge in site analysis, building regulations and building
design. • Prepare estimated cost and the project timeline (starting date, duration of the process, etc.) • Have to submit drawings to authorities for approval. • Awarding tenders and contract administration. • Administrating building contract-‐ help resolve problems between clients and contractor. • Able to handle cost, design issues and consultants appointments. • Outline proposal and sketch the design of the building. Should know the time and costing. • Submit design development and product information. • Supervise the progress on site and advise on insurance required. • Ensure that the progress on the site is monitored and meet requirements. • Resolve any contract dispute. • Submit modification of the design of “Home” to contractor. • Conduct assessment of “Home” to Jurupat Sdn. Berhad authorities. • Consider any operations of facilities of “Home” and think about further maintenance. • Ensure that requirements and dealines are met.
Landscape Architect:
• Look at the design of “Home” and include some urban schemes and natural characteristics of the given site. • Establish general landscape requirements with Jurupat Sdn. Berhad. • Conduct assessment and site analysis of the site for “Home” (soils, buildings). • Present to clients the proposal and deal with any problems and negotiate with them for the final design.

• Asses “Home” ‘s potential and meet the client’s requirements and specification. • Carry out any environmental impact assessment of constructing “Home”. • Select hardscapes and soft-‐scapes (materials and plants) to be implement in “Home”. • Get rid of any existing plants that are not needed anymore or that are not well maintained. • Prepare and present detailed drawings and plans, including applications, construction and specifications for “Home”. • Monitor and check on site frequently • Ensure that the plants are put into the right place. • Authorizing payment once construction work of “Home” is completed.
Quantity Surveyor: • Go to site visit with the Architect, Landscape Architect and Clients. • Estimate the define project budget of “Home”. • Analyze the effect of design changes on the project budget of “Home”. • Create order of cost and estimate, then obtain strategy of “Home”. • Negotiate with both the Architect and Landscape Architect regarding the cost of “Home”. • Prepare Bill of Quantities to assist in tender process. • Provision of cost control service during construction process. • Asses contractor’s progress and variation claims while constructing “Home”. • Negotiate and settle things during construction process.. • Carry out monthly predictions and report the costs during construction process. • Carry out monthly negotiations and agreements of payment for “Home”. • Prepare tax depreciation reports for Jurupat Sdn. Berhad. • Prepare detailed cost analysis and Statement of Final Account.
Civil and Structural Engineer
• Design structures to ensure that the building, the floors withstands stresses and pressure • Able to construct a building that would stand for a long period of time. • Choose appropriate materials to meet specifications of the design for “Home”.

• Analyze the roads and parking lots. • Conduct analysis for stress and pressure and make sure that each component of structures in “Home” will experience due to
human or environmental factors. • Ensure the safety and risks of “Home” . • Include a safety plan when there is a fire.
Mechanical and Electrical Engineer
• Collaborate with Architect and landscape Architect for a plan for electrical works. • Specialist in electrical works such as air conditioning, electrical wiring, lights. • Make sure that the lights are bright enough to see clearly and not too dim when at night. • Make sure fire alarms are installed.
Contractor
• Tender for the job of construction “Home”. • Complete works at a given time and budget when assigned. • Carry out quality construction of “Home” by giving a multi disciplined workforce. • Consult and give orders to workers. • Provide information that is sufficient and relevant for the workers to build “Home”. • Ensure that “Home” is build accurately as the drawings and plans. • Make agreements with the Architect, Landscape Architect and owners to achieve the goal of “Home” being completed on the
deadline.
