Joshua’s childhood
Josh belongs to the 80’s generation where the children played in the streets with freedom and where the children interacted and shared games with other kids. They learned from eachother. During that time he had lots of different experiences in his neighborhood, some of them marked his artistic life:
“Breakdance, skateboard and graffiti”.
THE INFLUENCE OF THE BREAKDANCE
Hosh was ten when he
became fascinated by
the older children of his
neighborhood who wore
cool laces in their
trainers and also danced
in an amazing way.
•The influence of the breakdance
He really liked the music of
that moment which he used
to watch on a TV programme
called “TOCATA”.
One day he bought his 1st
cassette tape of a famous
film called “Breakdance”, and
after school when the
classes finished he and his
friends practised the
movements that they had
seen in the film and the older
children at his school doing.
Let’s watch a video clip The breakdance of the 80’s
THE INFLUENCE OF SKATEBOARD
Hosh soon discovered the skateboarding world and left behind the breakdancing for a little while.
He watched videos with his friends and after seeing them he tried to copy and practise some of the movements with his skateboard.
It was fascinating for him.
• During that time the music that the skaters followed was: Beach Boys, Bad Religion, Beastie boys and Public Enemy.
The day that changed his life
In 1994 Hosh with three of his friends formed the first graffiti group in Ibiza. They got information about graffiti art in the big cities thanks to a magazine called “Fancines” . This was how they learned : reading articles and magazines.
One night in 1991 Hosh saw a documentary on TVE1 called “ Pintadas “ about : el Muelle a graffitti writer pioneer in Spain. The impact which it had on him was so great that after watching the program he went to a shop and bought his first can of spraypaint to write like el “Muelle” his name on walls. It was his 1st contact with the graffiti.
