mentioned in the fourth century in Greek writing, and the numerous Greek amphora and shipwrecks along the coast of Mljet are evidence that Greek sailors stayed on the shores of Mljet during their journeys
VEGETATION
WATER SOURCES• on the island there are
three major sources of brackish water in Blato, Sobre and Prozura which are used to irrigate the fields and as a source of drinking water in the summer months because Mljet is not yet connected to the national water supply
LAKES• The park's main attractions
are its two forest-shrouded "lakes”
• Malo jezero („Small Lake”) and Veliko jezero („Big Lake”), which together form a stretch of water some 4km long
• Both are encircled by foot- and cycle paths, and the clear, blue-green waters are perfect for bathing
POPULATION• according to the 2011 census, Mljet has
a population of 1 088• Croats make up an absolute majority
with 97.93% of the population
