When using an Office 365 subscription to sign in, a customer will also be able to edit and create new documents. Regardless, signing in also keeps your documents up-to-date across all devices connected to OneDrive. If you have a 365 subscription and you skip sign in, you can view Office documents but cannot edit or create new documents

1. In the App Store on your iPad, find Microsoft Word for iPad (or Excel or PowerPoint). Tap the free button and install the app.

2. Once Word is installed, open it. Swipe through the three intro screens to the sign-in screen.

3. Sign in with a Microsoft account or Office 365 account:

In the Sign in screen, enter your email address. If you have an Office 365 account, use the email address associated with that account. Otherwise, use a Microsoft account, for example the email address you use for Outlook.com, Xbox, or OneDrive.

In the Sign in screen, enter your password, then click Sign in.

4. Choose to Start using Word now, or to download the other Office apps (Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote).

5. Once you have signed into one app, you don’t need to sign into the other apps again.
