Sneaker Redesign: Shape and Color moods- Criteria & Objectives
• Students will redesign a sneaker for the brand of their choice using the color scheme of their choice from a color packet.
• Students will complete a packet of color schemes using colored pencils or tempera paint.
• Students will make “paste paper” for one of their colors and to add texture and patterns.
• Student’s will make “watercolor accident” paper for one of their colors and to add texture and patterns.
• Students will layer and collage their paper using composite shapes and advanced collaging techniques.
• Students will use colored pencils, paste paper, construction paper, and pencil to design and create their sneaker.
• The objective of the assignment is to use a color scheme, re-design a product, and to make paste paper to create visual texture.

Make your sneaker design big, big designs are easier to cut out.
Don’t cut out individual shapes.Cut and paste them on a larger sheet of paper, then cut and paste them onto your design. This way your edges are clean and crisp.
If you’re having trouble cutting out complex shapes, then layer your shapes. Cut out background colors as one large shape, then layer and overlap your sections.

On the left is the proper way to color in squares, on the right is the improper way to color in the squares
Split complimentary triad
Split Complimentary Triad= a complimentary color pair where one color is split into two tertiary colors.
For example Yellow and Violet are a complimentary color pair, you can split Violet into Red-Violet and Blue-Violet and add yellow to make it a complete split complimentary color triad.

Here is an example of another split complimentary color triad. This time blue has been split into Blue-Violet and Blue-Green.
You will have to use a split complimentary color triad for your artwork, make sure you pick a triad that you like.
