    the political, economic, ideological or cultural power exerted by a dominant group over other groups
    Hegemony, or the hegemon, dictates the politics of the hegemony's constituent subordinate states via cultural imperialism the imposition of its way of life, i.e. its language (the imperial lingua franca) and bureaucracies (social, economic, educational, governing), to make formal its dominance

    English sea captain, privateer, navigator, slaver, a renowned pirate, and a politician of the Elizabethan era. Elizabeth I of England awarded Drake a knighthood in 1581. He was second-in-command of the English fleet against the Spanish Armada in 1588(Calais)
