What is information and media literacy?

Information and Media literacy (IML) enables people to interpret and make informed judgments as user of media, as well as to become skillful creators And producers of information messages in their own rights.

21st century students…

The IML learning capacities prepare students to be 21st century literate. According to Mr.Jeff Willhelm “technology has everything to do with literacy. And being able to use the latest electronic technologies has everything to do with being literate.

The survey conducted by the media Awareness network of Canada is shown below:

• 62% of the students in grade 4 prefer Internet.• 38% of the students in grade 4 prefer the library.• 91% of the students in grade 11 prefer the

internet.• 9% of the students in grade 11 prefer libraries.

Teaching and learning in 21st century…

Many teachers continue the tradition of teaching the way from the past 50 years. Generally teachers have been the experts of downloading their knowledge to open the minds of children. Technology and the learning tools it provides access to force us to change to being facilitators of learning.

ISTE-The International Society of Technology in Education has provided the National Educational Technology standards for students, teachers, and administrators.

published the Information and communications technology integration performance standards, Grade 5 to 10. These standards provide performance standards, expectations for grade 5 to 10. However they do not provide guidance for other grades.

Origin of newspapers in India

The origin of newspapers in India dates back to eighteenth century. India’s first newspaper was “Hicky’s Bengal Gazett, published in Calcutta by James Augutus Hicky on 29 Jan, 1780. This newspaper was the first English printed newspaper in the Indian sub-continent.
