VÂLCEA COUNTY

Vâlcea county has an area of 5765 km2, which represents 2.43% of România, and is divided into the following administrative-territorial units: 2 municipalities (Râmnicu Vâlcea - County resident and Drăgăşani), 8 cities (Brezoi, Govora Baths, Olăneşti Baths, Călimăneşti, Horezu mines and Mari, which were added Băbeni Bălcesti and that cities were declared in 2002).

VILLAGE MUSEUM

The village museum has been outlined its topical profile since 1974, like a form of a village museum destinated to reconstitute, on a 8 hectars area, the functional image of a traditional rural settlement with all its social - cultural institutions.

NICOLAE BĂLCESCU MEMORIAL MUSEUM

The museum is located in a mansion that belonged to the Bălcescu family with special interior decorations and elegant furniture, found in a good state.

GOVORA

It is a All-season resort, famous for the variety and rich therapeutical properties of chlorine, sulfur (for external coures) sodium, iodine, bromine, and the hypotonic rich in calcium, magnesium, sulfur less (for internal cures) known and used since 1866.

Govora Monastery,(XIX) in 1640 was printed "Rule of Govora“ first book in Romanian law.

GOVORA MUSEUM

The archaeology collection comprises over 4,000 pieces, from the pre-ice period represented by mammoth fossils, Ursus arctes and Ursus spaeleos exhibits from the Upper Paleolithic, the Neolithic Age, the transition period towards the Bronze Age, the early and classic Bronze Age.

CĂLIMĂNEŞTI

In 1893, mineral water from Călimăneşti-Caciulata won THE GOLD MEDAL at the international exhibition of food and mineral water in Brussels.

COZIA MONASTERY

Cozia Monastery is a medieval monastic complex, located in Călimăneşti by the river Olt. It was founded by Mr. Mircea the Old, expanded and renovated over the centuries of its history.

SURUPATELE MONASTERY

The Brâncovenesc style, also known as Wallachian Renaissance and Romanian Renaissance, is an art and architectural style that evolved during the administration of Prince Constantin Brancoveanu in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

The museum was established due to the 1970 donation made by Alexandru Bălintescu to his native village. It is located in the Cultural Centre of Costeşti.

TROVANTS – the living stones – unique phenomenon in the world in Costesti, Valcea county. The “Trovants” are stones or sandstone concretions that secrete cement and appear to grow by themselves. They consist of a stone core with an outer shell of sand believed to be the result of cementation that occurred millions of years ago.

TURNU MONASTERY

Turnu Monastery is one of the most sacred Christian monastic dwellings of the Ramnic Diocese. Secluded on the leftbank of the Olt River, sheltered by Cozia Mountain and located nearly 2 km away from Cozia Monastery, also built by anancient Romanian ruler, Mircea The Old, Turnu Monastery was, for centuries, a very remote and unreachable place.
