1. To receive something (Followed by a concrete or abstract noun)

To get a present

2. To become is used to indicate a change.

“To get” is a synonym of “To become”

(Followed by an adjective or a comparative adjective)

- To get angry/sick/hot/calm

- To get tired/lost/stuck/excited

- To get taller/better/more interesting

e.g:

(It can also be used, followed by the Past Participle of a verb)

e.g:

Be careful…!You can’t use “To get” as synonym of “To become”, when it’s followed by a Noun or Superlative adjectives!

e.g:- To become a teacher.- To become an issue.- To become the best.

3. To bring/To buy/To find.

In expressions like:

- May I get (bring) you a drink?- I need to get (to buy) some food- I couldn’t get (find) any information.

4. When a sentence is made in Simple Present with the verb “To have”, we can readily use “To get” to express exactly the same but with different spelling (Present Perfect).

e.g:I have a question = I have got a question.

Do you have a minute? = Have you gotten a minute?They don’t have a van = They haven’t got a van.

She has to work late = She has gotten to work late.

5. Using “To get” as a Phrasal Verb.Some common ones:

- To get along with someone = To have a good relationship with someone.- To get over an illness/a shock/a problem = To recover from it.

- To get by = To survive.
