Insert Some Activities into Primavera P6
In this tutorial, we will breakdown all related works for RC structure and steel column only. It will follow
construction stage point 2 and 3 as we discussed in the previous tutorial.
2. Foundation stage
a. Soil Excavation b. Lean concrete and spacer for concrete cover c. Reinforcement bar installation for pad
footing/pedestal d. Timber formwork for pad footing
a. Concrete pouring (fc’ 35 MPa) b. Formwork dismantling c. Curing and rectification in case any defect on the
concrete.
a. Reinforcement bar fixing for pedestal b. Timber formwork, spacer and support installation c. Concrete pouring
a. Formwork dismantling, curing and rectification b. Backfill with imported soil (Limestone) c. Soil compaction for all area.
All works detail above is not required to be transferred into Primavera P6 as project schedule.
We just highlight some major works as representative of each picture.
Let’s continue our training by finalizing “Pre‐Construction work” item. Follow previous step by
adding 3 work items as picture below and insert duration each item as per your engineering
decision. To adjust column size, we can resize it by dragging a line in a blue circle.
You can add more work items as preparation step, for instance, site office, documentation,
measurement, join site visit, project board installation, etc.

According to construction stages above, we will simplify major jobs of “foundation” to be inserted into
Primavera P6 project schedule as mentioned below:
a. Pad Footing b. Pedestal 1. Soil Excavation 2. Lean concrete 3. Reinforcement bar installation 4. Timber formwork 5. Concrete pouring 6. Formwork dismantling and curing
7. Timber formwork and rebar fixing 8. Concrete pouring 9. Formwork dismantling 10. Backfilling and compaction
There are 2 WBS items under foundation work item, pad footing and pedestal. These items have to be
inserted into WBS tab as picture below.
Next step, re‐open activities tab and add some work items as written a list above.
Modify number of duration as you need for your planning in Original Duration column.
Connection each item will be discussed in next chapter.
3. Ground beam and slab
Pictures below are construction stage of RC ground beam and slab as next sequence of
foundation work.
a. Lean concrete underneath ground beam b. Reinforcement bar installation c. Timber formwork and spacer for concrete cover
a. Lateral timber support at both side b. Concrete pouring (fc’ 25 MPa) c. Formwork dismantling, curing and rectification
a. Timber formwork for RC Column b. Reinforcement bar fixing c. Concrete pouring d. Formwork dismantling e. Curing and rectification
a. Steel column erection and fixing on RC column b. Steel beam connection with column c. Roof frame installation d. Soil Backfilling and compaction for RC Slab e. Lean concrete f. Wire mesh M8 installation g. Concrete pouring h. Curing and rectification
If we analyse construction stages above, we can divide all major jobs to be 4 WBS as below:
1. Ground beam
2. RC Slab
3. RC column
4. Steel Column and Beam
Three (3) WBS are put under ground beam and slab, whereas steel structure is described under Steel
column and beam as picture below
In the previous tutorial, there is work item “RC and steel column” under ground beam and slab, it is
replaced by “Steel column and beam” as mentioned below
Go to Activities tab as previous instruction, and insert some activities following a list above
We just finalized inserting some activities under foundation, ground beam/slab and steel structure.
Duration can be modified as per your planning.
Relationship and resources each work item will be discussed in the further tutorial.
