The concept of international understanding.Meaning of EIUAims of EIU

INTRODUCTION

Education of international understanding can be considered as the macro-social side of peace education. It looks at peace at the world level, armed conflicts, and relations among peoples. Global education provides basic tools to critically evaluate global relations and dynamics.

Today humanity is living in a global village . No nation can withstand without the co-operation of other countries. The individual must also must learn that the earth is a single living pulsating entity and all human beings are an interlocking extended family this is possible only through the medium of education.

The concept of International UnderstandingInternational Understanding or internationalism is a feeling that the individual is not only a member of his country but a member of the world as well.

It is the sense of world citizenship which enables individuals to hold a global perspective instead of local or national view points.

According to Lewis International Understanding is the ability to observe critically and objectively and appraise the conduct of men everywhere to each other ,irrespective of the nationality or culture to which they belong.

Goldsmith defines internationalism as a feeling that the individual is not only a member of his state but a citizen of the world.

According to Mishra , international understanding refers to friendship and harmony among different nations of the world and also includes co-operation amongst them each one maintaining its identity and so sovereignty as usual.

international understanding is the feeling of oneness that inspires the people in the entire world. To live together in peace and harmony .

Meaning of EIUEIU is an educational activity directed to achieve the goal of the world citizenship.

It is essentially an education for world peace ,universal love, international tolerance transnational co operation and co operative living.

This is an education based on the idea of the oneness of mankind.

The UNESCO considers education for EID as an educational programme which shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations racial or religious group and shall further the activities of the united nations for the maintenance of world peace.

AIMS OF EIUEducation is the principal weapon for destroying the narrow national frontiers which segregate mankind and establishing a feeling of oneness in man all over the world.

India has believed in philosophy of Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, which means that the Planet Earth is a single living, pulsating entry and all forms of life are an interlocking extended family.

To develop love for peace and hatred for war.To develop spirit of international tolerance and co operation.To understand the interdependence of people and nations.To develop a feeling of world citizenship.

To create faith in humanity and propagate

humanitarianism.To organize that the basic needs and problems of man are one and the same all over the world. To enable individuals and groups top understand the need for interdependence of nation.

To instill broad international values in learners and prepare them for a world citizenship.To understand and appreciate the essential humanity which underlines in all different cultures.To appreciate the contributions of science ,technology ,arts , literature etc to unit entire world and create a global system of thinking.
