SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN

Before administering the pledge for the celebrated Clean India campaign, Modi delivered a short speech highlighting the need of cleanliness to fulfil Gandhiji’s dream of Clean India. In fact, the concerned campaign logo depicts the Father of the Nation’s face that signifies as if late Gandhiji is watching what is being done to fulfill his dream. Modi stressed on the fact that the campaign will never reach its peak if Indians consider it as a government programme only. It should be a mass movement, where people have to change their mindset first and pledge to keep India clean. Even after more than 60 years of Independence from British rule, over 60 per cent of Indians including women still use open air and unhygienic facilities for answering the call of nature. That’s why constructing more toilets has become a necessity. Modi also referred to a WHO report that says every average Indian has to spend Rs 6500 every year due to poor sanitation. If there are hygienic conditions in the country, substantial MONEY    can be saved every year.

GOT INSPIRED• "Swachh Bharat Campaign logo is not just a logo, through it

Gandhiji is watching us and we all should clean India. I am not claiming that the newly electedgovernment is doing everything. Be it temples, mosques, gurudwaras or any place, we must take efforts to clean our surroundings. Cleanliness is not only the responsibility of the 'safaai kaamgar', it is the responsibility of 125 crore Indians. If Indians can reach Mars at a cheap cost, can we not clean our neighbourhoods?" I greet all of them for this. Swachh Bharat mission is beyond politics. It is inspired by patriotism and not politics."

SMALL STEPS FOR A BETTER

TOMORROWMahatma Gandhi dreamt of an India which was not only free but also clean and developed. Mahatma Gandhi secured freedom for Mother India. Now it is our duty to serve Mother India by keeping the country neat and clean.I take this pledge that I will remain committed towards cleanliness and devote time for this.I will devote 100 hours per year that is two hours per week, to voluntarily work for cleanliness.I will neither litter not let others litter.I will initiate the quest for cleanliness with myself, my family, my locality, my village and my work place.I believe that the countries of the world that appear clean are so because their citizens don't indulge in littering nor do they allow it to happen. With this firm belief, I will propagate the message of Swachh Bharat Mission in villages and towns.I will encourage 100 other persons to take this pledge which I am taking today.I will endeavour to make them devote their 100 hours for cleanliness.I am confident that every step I take towards cleanliness will help in making my country clean.
