Levoflox (Levofloxacin Tablets) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic
that fights bacteria in the body.Levoflox tablets are used to treat
bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or
prostate. Levofloxacin tablets are also used to treat bacterial
infections that cause bronchitis or pneumonia, and to treat people
who have been exposed to anthrax. Levofloxacin tablets should be
used only for infections that cannot be treated with a safer
antibiotic.

Uses of Levoflox Tablets

Levoflox tablets are used for the treatment of the following
infections due to Levofloxacin susceptible microorganisms: Acute
sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis,
community-acquired pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections
including pyelonephritis, skin and soft tissue infections and
prostatitis.

Nosocomial Pneumonia: 750 mg every 24 hours for a duration of 7
to 14 days
Community Acquired Pneumonia : 750 mg every 24 hours for a
duration of 5 days or 500 mg for a duration of 7 to 14 days
Acute Bacterial Sinusitis: 500 mg every 24 hours for a duration
of 10 to 14 days
Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis: 500 mg every
24 hours for a duration of 7 days

Complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections (SSSI): 750 mg
every 24 hours for a duration of 7 to 14 days.
Uncomplicated SSSI: 500 mg every 24 hours for a duration of 7 to
10 days.
Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: 500 mg every 24 hours for a
duration of 28 days.
Complicated Urinary Tract Infection or Acute Pyelonephritis: 250
mg every 24 hours for a duration of 10 days.
Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection: 250 mg every 24 hours for
a duration of 3 days.

Inhalational Anthrax (Post-Exposure): The dosage for Adults and
Pediatric Patients more than 50 kg and 6 months of age or more is
500 mg every 24 hours for 60 days. In case of Pediatric Patients 6
months of age or more and weighing less than 50 kg the dosage is 8
mg/kg twice a day subject to the condition that the dose must not
exceed 250 mg per dose for 60 days.

Levoflox (Levofloxacin Tablets) have to be stored at controlled
room temperature i.e. from 20C to 25C (68F to 77F) with excursions
permitted between 15 to 30C (59 to 86F). Protect from light and
moisture.Keep this as well as all other medicines away from
children and pets.

Fluoroquinolones, including Levofloxacin Tablets (Levoflox), are
associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
in all ages. This risk is further increased in older patients
usually over 60 years of age, in patients taking corticosteroid
drugs, and in patients with kidney, heart or lung transplants. This
medicine may exacerbate muscle weakness in persons with myasthenia
gravis.Anaphylactic reactions and allergic skin reactions, serious,
occasionally fatal, can occur after first dose.Hematologic
(including agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia), and renal toxicities
can occur after multiple doses. Some cases of severe, and sometimes
fatal, hepatoxicity has also been reported.Central nervous system
effects, including convulsions, anxiety, confusion, depression, and
insomnia can occur after the first dose.

Contraindications
Levoflox is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity
to Levofloxacin or any other component of this medication. This
medicine is also contraindicated in patients with epilepsy, in
patients with a history of tendon disorders related to
fluoroquinolones administration..Also contraindicated in children
or growing adolescents, during pregnancy and in breastfeeding
women.

The most common Levoflox side effects occurring in 3% or more of
the patients undergoing treatment with this medicine are nausea,
headache, diarrhea, insomnia, constipation and dizziness.

In the case of an acute Levoflox overdosage, the stomach should
be emptied. The patient should be observed and appropriate
hydration maintained. Levofloxacin is not efficiently removed by
haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Levofloxacin tablets exhibit
a low potential for acute toxicity.
Levofloxacin During Pregnancy

Levoflox (Levofloxacin Tablets) has been classified by the US
FDA as Pregnancy Category C. Levofloxacin was not teratogenic in
rats at oral doses as high as 9.4 times the highest recommended
human dose based upon relative body surface area. There are,
however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
This medicine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential
benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
