Introduction

Improper movements in lifestyle or

postural hazards are the two major  causes of low back pain along with  stress.

Musculo‐skeletal diseases (MSD) are

commonest of present day working  system. The causes are –

Occupational and

Poor posture

MSDs

affect the bones, joints, nerves,

tendons, muscles and supporting  structures, such as inter vertebral disc

space in back.

after thorough examination  and X‐ray diagnosed the

condition as slip disc of L5‐ S1.

Investigations:MRI report 9/9/2009

describes the slip disc of L4‐ L5,

L5‐S1, with bulge and annular  tear.

Discussion

According to Ayurveda Low Back

Pain vis‐à‐vis katishoola

is due to  vitiation of Vata.

Vata is controller and catalyst for all

the functions in the body.

Back pain arises with vitiated vata.

Charaka has considers the vasti

as  half of the treatment for all ailments

and the full for Vata diseases.

As vata

is located in the colon and

bones, basti

is more helpful in  disorders of bones.

It is useful in neurological disorders

by strengthening muscles, tissues,  and relieves the stiffness of back and

lumber region.

Page 16: Majjabasti in msd 15-09-13

ConclusionKatishoola

and katigraha

refer to the lumbago sciatica  syndrome and IVDP.

In both conditions the  ionvolvement

of spine and

vitiated vata

are controlled by  sneha

(majja) and getting

symptomatic relief from  musculo

skeletal disorder i.e.

low back pain. It nourishes to repair the

inter‐vertebral disc spaces  and vertebrae also.

Page 17: Majjabasti in msd 15-09-13

Conclusion

Thus it is fairly concluded  that the Majjavasti

is new

advanced technique  introduced by Chakradutta

is successful in IVDP and  low back pain

symptomatically.

If repeated sittings are

made it could establish  repair and normalization

of slip disc even.

A through inter

disciplinary research is  anticipated in this regard.
