MaterialiPDS pellets and gelatin of type B (Mn 50,000, 225 bloom) from bovine skin, in powder form, were all purchased from Sigma–Aldrich (Italy). 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFP) were supplied by Fluka (Italy). All products were used as received without further purifications. PDS was dissolved in HFP by stirring at 37 °C overnight, to obtain 10% (wt/v) solution, respectively. Gelatin was separately dissolved in both the solvents at the same concentration, under similar conditions. Both solutions were then combined to form a single solution of HFP with a 1 : 1 PDS/gelatin weight ratio.

Electrospinning setup

The electrospinning apparatus used in this work was NANON-01A (MECC Co. Ltd. Japan). The solution was placed in a 5mL syringe (BD Plastipack, Italy), fixed on the pump system and joined to a stainless steel needle diameter of 0,8 mm connected to the positive pole. An earthed metallic plate covered by aluminum foil was used to collect fibers. The process was carried out in a vertical configuration, and a deposition time was 10 minutes.
