Uses of Sartel Tablets

Sartel (Telmisartan Tablets) is used for the treatment of
hypertension, to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure
decreses the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events,
primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions. Telmisartan tablets
are also used for the reduction of the risk of myocardial
infarction, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes in patients
55 years of age or older and at high risk developing major
cardiovascular events who are unable to take ACE inhibitors.
Storage Instructions

Sartel (Telmisartan Tablets) have to be stored at controlled
room temperature i.e. from 20C to 25C (68F to 77F) . Keep this as
well as all other medicines away from children and pets.
Warnings

Do not administer Aliskiren along with Telmisartan in patients
with diabetes. Avoid use of aliskiren with Telmisartan in patients
with renal impairment. When Telmisartan is co-administered with
Digoxin, monitor digoxin levels when initiating, adjusting, and
discontinuing Telmisartan for the purpose of keeping the digoxin
level within the therapeutic range.Avoid fetal or neonatal exposure
Correct any volume or salt depletion before starting therapy.
Observe for signs and symptoms of hypotension Monitor carefully in
patients with impaired hepatic or renal function Avoid concomitant
use of an ACE inhibitor and angiotensin receptor blocker.

Reversible increases in serum Lithium concentrations and
toxicity have been reported during concomitant administration of
Lithium with ARBs including Telmisartan.Monitor renal function
periodically receiving telmisartan and NSAID therapy.Concomitant
use of telmisartan and ramipril is not recommended. In case
Potassium sparing diuretics are used along with this medicine they
should be used with caution and with frequent monitoring of serum
potassium.

Prior treatment with high dose diuretics such as furosemide
(loop diuretic) and hydrochlorothiazide (thiazide diuretic) may
result in volume depletion and in a risk of hypotension when
initiating therapy with Telmisartan.The blood pressure lowering
effect of telmisartan can be increased by concomitant use of other
antihypertensive medicinal products.

Hypertension: The starting dose is 40 mg once daily and the
dosage range is 40 mg to 80 mg once daily.
Cardiovascular Risk Reduction : The starting dose is 80 mg once
daily and the dosage range is 80 mg once daily.
The dosage of Sartel tablets (Telmisartan) can be administered
with or without food . When used for cardiovascular risk reduction,
monitoring of blood pressure is recommended, and if appropriate,
adjustment of medications that lower blood pressure may be
necessary. The adult dosage for various indication is given

Contraindications
Sartel tablets are contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Telmisartan or any other component of this
medication.Do not co-administer Aliskiren with Telmisartan in
patients with diabetes mellitus or renal impairment.This medicine
is also contraindicated in Second and third trimesters of
pregnancy, patients with Biliary obstructive disorders or with
Severe hepatic impairment.

Hypertension:The most common Sartel side effects with an
incidence rate of 1% reported in hypertension trials are back pain,
sinusitis, and diarrhea.
Cardiovascular risk reduction: The serious Telmisartan side
effects with an incidence rate of 1% reported in cardiovascular
risk reduction trials were intermittent claudication and skin
ulcer.

The most likely symptoms of overdosage with Sartel (Telmisartan
Tablets) would be hypotension, dizziness and tachycardia;
bradycardia could occur from parasympathetic (vagal)
stimulation.

In case symptomatic hypotension occurs due to overdose of
Telmisartan tablets, supportive treatment should be instituted.
Telmisartan is not removed by hemodialysis.

as Pregnancy Category D . Use of medicines that act on the
renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimesters of
pregnancy reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and
