Aging is an inevitable natural process that we all have to go through. However, the physical and psychological effects of aging are determined by your lifestyle. Certain habits can ensure great health in both appearance and attitude. Practicing the habits consistently can slow down the aging process.

• Start your healthy living habits early. You can slow down aging by beginning to take care of yourself early enough. Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, or abusing drugs. This means you should never use any form of drug including alcohol and caffeine. Also, avoid second-hand smoke because the chemicals contained in second-hand smoke can age you

• Do not let your weight fluctuate drastically over a short period because weight loss and gain stretches the skin and causes it to hang and wrinkle later in life.

• Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Foods such as blueberries, beans, and walnuts are rich in antioxidants that help detoxify the body. Buy vegetables with bright skins because of their high antioxidant content, which helps repair damaged cells. Also, antioxidants help prevent heart diseases, Alzheimer’s and cancer. Eat as much naturally grown foods as possible to avoid contamination from pesticides and chemicals.

• Avoid stress to age gracefully. Stick to a daily exercise regimen such as working out for at least half an hour every day to burn fats and tone your muscles. Exercise helps improve blood circulation, maintains blood sugar levels, improves stamina, and boosts immunity. Exercising will also help you sleep more peacefully at night.

• Practice yoga and meditation to relax your mind and maintain your emotional well-being. Relieve stress by practicing deep breathing, which helps to improve blood circulation and boost energy levels.

• Drink at least eight glasses of water every day to help your body flush toxins and improve the health of body organs such as the skin. Avoid drinking carbonated and caffeinated water because they dehydrate the body.

• Regularly undertake skin cleansing and exfoliation. Massage your face and neck with castor oil to firm muscles and improve the skin tone of your face. Apply sunscreen and moisturizer to protect your skin from the elements.

• Get at least eight hours of undisturbed, peaceful sleep every day to allow the body to rest and rejuvenate. Getting adequate sleep will improve your concentration and sharpness reflexes as well as help regulate hormones and reduce stress.

• Avoid drinking tea, coffee, or soda because they stain the teeth and may cause dental cavities. Aging gracefully involves taking care of your teeth as well to ensure dental health.

• Go for regular hair trimming and conditioning treatment. Consider taking hair vitamins if you notice that your hair is receding or thinning. Use safe and professional hair care products.
