PROCESSDESIGN- From the imagination to paper. The birth of a Carrera y Carrera jewel starts in its design department. Nature, Spanish character, art, mini-sculpture, and the unmistakable matte-gloss finish combination serve as a guide for the brand design experts in creating the collections.

SCULPTING WAX- The piece that has been previously drawn is precisely and painstakingly sculpted by the expert hands of the modelers in a block of hard wax, giving each model and piece the maximum detail. In this manner it is possible to appreciate the volumes and come as close as possible to the final appearance of the piece. If the result is optimal, the piece is then created in silver and worked on until it is perfect to obtain the master prototype of the piece.

FROM WAX TO GOLD- A completely traditional process. Using the master prototype in silver from the previous step, a rubber mold will be made into which liquid wax will be injected to produce the models that will later become jewels. These are retouched by hand one by one, and placed in a “tree” that will be transformed into gold through a lost wax melting technique, the traditional process that the firm continues to use today.

SOLDERING- The final touch of fire on the piece The gold piece arrives at the solderers, who are charged with cutting, filing, sanding, soldering, and assembling all the parts. Manipulation of the raw material is a laborious process that requires dexterity, dedication and a special ability that is acquired only from experience.

SELECTION- Brilliant choice In the Carrera y Carrera gemological laboratory, one by one the gems for each piece are analyzed, classified, and selected according to their quality, color, size, and weight for later setting. Keen vision and a steady hand are essential to this painstaking process in the creation of the piece.

SETTING- Precious stones integrated with the metal. The gold pieces reach the hands of other artists, the setters, who are in charge of fitting, adjusting, and securely holding the piece in the metal. These professionals must be very rigorous in their work to ensure that the stones are inseparable from the metal. In this manner the setters bestow a permanent shine to the Carrera y Carrera jewels.

MATTE-GLOSS FINISH- The brand’s trademark The Carrera y Carrera matte-gloss finish is a secret jealously guarded by its master jewelry artisans. Through its contrast, this finish allows a greater appreciation of the details of the small sculptures and to observe the velvet-like effect of gold.

POLISHING- High quality in every detail. The process of creation of a jewel culminates with hand polishing as a seal of high quality. Once this process is complete, the reference number indicating each piece as unique is engraved on the piece, and the brand hallmark that certifies the piece was made by Carrera y Carrera is punched in. To complete the piece, an exhaustive quality control takes place during which it is decided whether the jewel meets the brand’s exacting quality standards.
