INTRODUCTION Concrete is composite material from water, sand, coarse aggregate and most importantly cement.

It has unique properties which are strong, cheap, formability and durability

It is considered the base for infrastructure

ACTIVITY 1:HUNTING FOR OBJECTS MADE OF CONCRETE Objective: Searching for the usage of concrete around us

Page 5: Concrete, Concrete Boat SIS5

USAGE OF CONCRETE IN QATAR

Conclusion: Concrete is used every where around us Because it’s strong, formable, durable and cheap

Page 6: Concrete, Concrete Boat SIS5

ACTIVITY 2: COMPARING DIFFERENT KINDS OF CEMENT Objective: Compare which sample will harden faster with additives Procedure

Page 7: Concrete, Concrete Boat SIS5

ACTIVITY 2: COMPARING DIFFERENT KINDS OF CEMENT

Results

Sample C hardens faster than the other samples Sample B hardens slower than the other samples Eventually all samples will harden

Page 8: Concrete, Concrete Boat SIS5

CONCLUSION Salt acted like a catalyst, hence the hardening reaction of cement was faster

Sugar was anti-catalysit so the reaction was slower

ACTIVITY 3: COMPARING DIFFERENT CONCRETE FORMULATIONSoObjective Prepare three concrete formulations and compare their densities oDetermine the best concrete formulation according to density Procedure

Page 10: Concrete, Concrete Boat SIS5

ACTIVITY 3: COMPARING DIFFERENT CONCRETE FORMULATIONS

Results Density law p=m/v

The 50:50 ratio give the highest density and hence the strongest concrete

Type of sample

Mass g Volume cm3

Density g/cm3

Coarse aggregate only

100g 42 100/42= 2.32

Fine aggregate only

CONCLUSION All the pore and opining in the concert are filled with this ratio

The lowest volume leads to the highest density

PROJECT DESIGNING AND MAKING CONCRETE BOATTRIAL 1: UNSUCCESSFUL

Objectives: As a group our objective is to design a boat made from concrete and it should have the ability to float and carry weight

Reason The boat was leaking water in

Cement

Sand Water Fly ash Silica

Quantity

780g 3120g 1040g 468g 312g

TRIAL 2SUCCESSFUL TRAIL Improvements made: Fix the leak by using cement and water
