From the family of Heaven to…
The Last Adam - “Everlasting Father”
of the Sanctified believer
Christ is all and in all
The beloved Michael’s disappearance!!!
The pre-existent non-created Son of God; ‘Michael your prince’ (Dan 9:25; 10:21; 12:1; Isa 9: 6) the “only begotten of the Father”, willingly condescended from His high and exalted position. “Michael” (literally meaning ‘one who is like God’) clothed His divinity with humanity and became the second Adam – an “everlasting father” of the children of the kingdom. (Phil 2: 6-8; Col 1:18)
Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created
things.Col 1:15 GNT (See NLT and BBE versions)
The divine Son was given a more excellent name
which consisted of the following attributes
Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called [future] Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting FATHER, The Prince of Peace.” - Isa 9:6 (See Phil 2:8-9; Luke 1:32,33; 47;77-80; Ex 23:21)
• “A [baby] born” (assumed humanity)• “A son given” (Jesus’ chosen humanity)• “Wonderful, Counselor” • “mighty God” (His natural divinity)• “Everlasting Father” (natural divinity)
‘Wonderful, Counselor’ links His humanity to His divinity in becoming our great high priest
Consider the last two attributes
5 significant attributes
“Yahweh” “I AM” “Alpha and Omega” “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” because He inherited His
Father’s nature long before His incarnation. Therefore the name “God” is Jesus’ family name – a far more
“excellent name” than the angels – by natural inheritance and “NOT BY ANY GREAT ACHEIVEMENT”. The name “Jesus” (Savior) was “a name above every
name” and this name was His GIVEN to Him at His incarnation birth (See Heb 1:4, Heb 1:1-8; John 5:26;
Phil 2:6-10;1890 EJW, CHR 11.4)
We will now summarize and then consider
Jesus as “everlasting father”
Point 1. Jesus is called “mighty God”…
“GOD” was Christ’s naturally INHERITED “family name” in heaven
“MICHAEL” was Christ’s symbolic GIVEN name in heaven prior to the incarnation)
“JESUS” was Michael’s “new” “given name” at the incarnation human birth. Mat 1:21; Rev 3:12
Summary One Man - Three Exalted Names
Point 2. The Begotten Son INHERITED His Father’s PARENTAL attributes. Matt 22:42-
45 .
Isaiah 22:21-23“…and he shall be a Father to the inhabitants of
Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah…”
He received the “key” of authority. As heavenly Priest-king-Judge, He has power to “open, and… shut” the door to His Father’s kingdom relative
to who has or
has not been born again. (See Rev. 1:18; 3:7)
John 6: 37, 39 Just as the Father has resurrecting power,
so has He GIVEN to the Son “ the keys of hell and of death” to “raise up” (resurrect) His faithful children from death at the second coming to inherit life everlasting in His kingdom of glory
Was GIVEN resurrecting power
Heb 2:13 The Almighty God GAVE the children of the
kingdom into Christ’s care. Because He was FULLY human, He could understand their trials and weaknesses and be a ‘Wonderful Counselor’ to them (See John 10:29; 17:11,21, 24,25)
Jesus was GIVEN “children” from His Father
A father of redemption
Galatians 4:4-5 God sent forth His Son to deliver us “from
the curse of the law” [of “sin and death”] “that we might receive the adoption of
sons.” (Gal 3:13; Col 1:14; Rom 8:2)
Christ is a father in CreationColossians 1:16
Together the Almighty Father AND Michael His pre-existent Son created Adam and Eve –
humanities very first parents.
(See Gen 1:26,27; 2:7, 21,22; John1:3;
Luke 3:38; Heb 1:2;)
Summary Christ our…
1. mighty God inherited some of His Father’s names, e.g. “Jehovah” (Yahweh)
“God” “I AM”, “Alpha and Omega”. (Rev 22:18)
Our family name signifies who we belong to. To a greater or lesser degree when we are born we inherit the nature and features of our father. Yet the begotten Son is the “express image” of His Father!!
The name “Jesus” was “the Son of man’s” GIVEN name. In ancient Israel a new born babe’s first name reflected his character. The name Jesus means Savior, it reflected His character and work
2. Father created Adam and Eve with His “Almighty” Father now holds the “key” of authority (He was Given resurrecting
power) is given children to adopt, redeem and resurrect for the kingdom
The Two Adams Now we will give some attention to Christ
illustrated as our “husband” that the apostle Paul refers to as the second (“last”) Adam. The concept of the two Adam’s illustrates the power in the gospel of salvation and the ‘elect’ lady’s spiritual union with the last Adam - her “Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father and Prince of peace” (Isa 9:6)
Rom 5: 10-19
1 Cor 15:45-50
THE TWO ADAMS
Five Correlations BOTH men experienced a fallen offending human nature;
Adam by the Fall and Christ by CHOOSING to INHERIT it at the incarnation. (Rom 1:3,4; 8:3; Gal 4:4; Heb 2:14-18; Phil 2:5-8; Rev 22:16)
BOTH men were representative heads of two different kingdoms (Rom 5:12-21)
BOTH men faced trials and tests thus they were exposed to tremendous risk factors (Gen 2:17; Matt 4:1-10; 1 John 2:16)
BOTH men influenced the entire world taking vast multitudes to the grave with them. The 1st Adam left them there, however the 2nd Adam took the corrupt nature of the repentant sinners to the grave and resurrects them to newness of life. Rom 6:8 “If we die with Him, we shall live with Him” (Rom 5:10-20; 6:1-11; 2 Tim 2:11)
BOTH men became husbands, each, to one beautiful woman with Christ demonstrating to His bride submission to the Father (Gen 2: 21-23; 2 Cor11:2; Rom 7:2-4; Eph 5:23-27)
“husband” of His beloved
Romans 7: 2-4 Jesus is the second (“last”) Adam husband, spiritually “married” to His
justified, sanctified woman–church. She is His “chaste [spiritual] virgin”, His “elect
lady” with “children…in the truth” [sanctified children of the kingdom].
(1 John 2:1; 2 Cor 11:2; See Isa 54:5,6; Jer 3:14a;
Hos 2:19,20; 3:1-2; Song 6:3; Eph 5:23-27)
Identifying the NATURE of the 2nd Adam (husband of the true church)
Two popularized views: pre-fall nature of Adam ?
post-fall nature of Adam ?
Is there more?
Nature of the 2nd Adam
1. Adam’s nature after the fall ? 2. Adam’s nature before the fall ?
OR - the less understood dual nature
3. Adam’s offending physical nature after the fall by a voluntary choice with a natural sanctified divine moral nature – like His born again brothers and sisters.
Let’s allow Scripture to determine
Christ’s twofold nature
“For such an high priest became us, who is holy,
harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens” – Heb 7:26
“….made of the seed of David ACCORDING to the flesh; [*“sinful flesh”] And declared to be the Son of God with power, ACCORDING to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead” – Rom 1:3,4. (*See Rom 8:3)
The holy nature of the incarnate Christ was manifested by a continual submission of His fallen offending sinful nature that HE TOOK ON HIM, to the will of the Father - THROUGH FAITH! After conquering that fallen sinful flesh/nature, it was destroyed eternally at the cross!!! And the glorified divine/human nature is what appeared at the resurrection! THAT glorified/divine/human nature is reserved for us at Jesus 2nd Coming.
Elder brother and “holy, harmless, undefiled” High Priest to the sanctified (Heb 7:26)
Heb 2:11 NRS - “For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. For this reason Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters”
Our elder brother UNDERSTANDS our trials, our temptations, our grief and woes, because He suffered just like we do. Therefore He is qualified to be our sympathetic great High Priest ( See Heb 2:17)
“Sanctification” is holiness - it is wherever
God’s Divine Presence Dwells
“And he [Elijah] shall turn the heart of the Fathers (1. Jesus – the everlasting Father of
redemption and 2., His self-originating
Heavenly Father) to the children, and the
heart of the children to their fathers.”
Turning the hearts of the children
to the heavenly Fathers
Mal 4:6
Hebrews 2:11 “He [the 2nd Adam] purifies people from
their sins, and both he and those who are made pure ALL HAVE THE SAME FATHER. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his family”. (GNT See Matt 5:8)
“So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters” (GW)
Spirit of Prophecy identifies the last Adam’s
“brethren”
"Through Jesus the fallen sons of Adam
become ‘sons of God’… 'Both he that sanctifieth and they who are
sanctified are all of one; for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren’ (Heb. 2:11)."
– The Great Controversy p.477
The true hearted “Brethren”
Sanctification Connection
“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the
heavenly calling,….” – Heb 3:1
“And the very God of peace SANCTIFY you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us. Greet all the brethren with an HOLY kiss. I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.” – 1 Thess 5:25-27
More Spirit of Prophecy
on Hebrews 2:11
“All who are born into the heavenly
family are in a special sense the brethren [brothers and sisters] of our Lord”
- The Desire of Ages p. 637, 638
The last Adam told us exactly
who His brethren are…Matt 12: 48,50
“Who are my brethren?…For whosoever shall do the will of my
Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother and sister and mother”
The Father’s Ultimate Will in Earth
The will of the Father is that we give Him glory. He desires that we manifest the fruit of the spirit (reflect His character) and live out His righteousness (See Isa 61:3). Daniel prophesied the reason Jesus the Messiah would come was to “make an end of sins and bring in everlasting righteousness”. (Dan 9:24-27). This is the Father’s ultimate “will” that Jesus prayed would be “done in earth AS IT IS IN HEAVEN”!!! (Matt 6:10)
What is the will of the Father?
• Sanctification is holiness: - to completely separate ourselves from worldly practices. It is to abide in Jesus the true vine; to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (character) through the divine promises from the Word of truth. Rom 12:1-2; 1 Thess 4:3; John 15:1-12;17:17-19; 2 Pet 1:4; 2 Cor 7:1; Rom 6:22)
• Sanctification is daily keeping God’s commandments and statutes. - Psm 40:8; Heb 8: 10; Mal 4:4-6; Ex 21-23; Deut 10:12,13; 30:11-16; 4:6-10
• Sanctification is to be daily clothed in the wedding garments of the last Adam’s righteous character. It is to be without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, to be holy and without blemish. Eze 36: 25-27; Eph 5:27
The sanctified believer inherits Christ’s very life!!! This is His will
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might become partakers of the divine nature…….” – 2 Pet 1:4
“If any man be in Christ he is a new creation, old things are passed away; behold ALL things are become new.” – 2 Cor 5:18
“We [the last Adam’s bride] are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones” – Eph 5:25-30
the sign of the new heart
“A new heart will I give you…..” Eze 36:26,27
“To have a new heart is to have a new mind, new
purposes, new motives. What is the sign of a new heart? – a changed life. There is a daily hourly dying to selfishness and pride.” MYP 72
“Jesus became a man………that He might restore to man [his bride] the original mind which he lost in Eden.” 7BC 926
Christ’s “holy brethren” are born again and sanctified
"The true Christian………..is a living
representative of the truth which he professes. Of these true-hearted
followers, Jesus declares that He is not ashamed to call THEM brethren.”
- Signs of the Times, March-9-1882
Summary of “The Lord Our Righteousness”
Christ as a “babe” was given to “the world” (Isa 9:6; John 3:16-18; Luke 2:12; Acts 17:26-28)
Christ as a “Son" was given “while we were yet sinners…...” (Rom 5: 8, 10)
Christ as “the last Adam” was given for our justification….. (Rom 7:2-4; Hosea 3:1-2: Eph 2:8-10)
Christ as our “husband” and “elder brother” is given for our sanctification……. (Heb 2:11, 17; Eph 5:25-30; Heb 12:10,14; 13:12;1 Pet 1:15,16)
Christ as our “everlasting father” is given for our glorification….. (Isa 9:6; 22: 21,23; John 17:22-24)
Christ is all and in all. He is our wisdom, our sanctification, our righteousness and redemption - 1 Cor 1:30; Jer 23:6
Summary There exists a family in heaven consisting of the created angels, the
Father, His only begotten Son and closest friend who became the second Adam. (Zec 13:7; Prov 8:22,31; 30:4)
Jesus inherited His Father’s divine NATURE and CHARACTER along with His character descriptive names. Jesus’ “family” name “God” and “Yahweh” forever belongs to Him by nature. The name “Jesus” was His given name signifying His character. This name is a far more excellent name than the angels. He is co-creator and fatherly redeemer of Adam and his descendents (Col 1: 14,16; Hos 3:1-2)
Through His life-giving Spirit, Jesus is the “everlasting father”, and a husband to those who are spiritually re-born. (Isa 9:6; Heb 2:11; Rom 7:3-4)
Jesus was “made like unto His brethren” in “every respect”. He was fully human, “of the seed of David according to his the flesh” yet He He kept that offending nature in subjection to His divine nature. He possessed and maintained a divine mind, pure heart and sanctified will. (Heb 2:11-17)
Christ’s brethren are the true-hearted believers, the born
again Christians. They inherit Christ’s very life, abide in Him and allow His spirit to sanctify them. They are adopted into the family of heaven. They are identified by doing God’s will.
The will of the Father is to confess, repent, be cleansed of sin, and experience genuine conversion, to be clothed in His righteousness and experience complete sanctification by keeping His holy commandments and statutes. (Rom 12:2; 1 Thess 4:3)
The born again 144,000 are partakers of the divine nature and character of God. Christ is their life. Therefore they have the Son’s and their Father’s name written on their foreheads. (Rev 3:12; 14: 1). One name represents their new nature), the other name represents their Christ-like character. (2 Pet 1:4; Heb 12:10,14; 1 John 2:29;3:9; 4:7-9; Rev 22:11; 1 John 3:2)
Amen
The last Adam was born born again (See also Prov 8:22-31; 30:4; Matt 22:42-45)
“But He [Christ the second Adam] was born again from the world of righteousness into the world of sin; that we might be born again, from the world of sin into the world of righteousness. He was born again, and was made partaker of the human nature, that we might be born again, and be made partakers of the divine nature. He was born again unto earth, unto sin, and unto man, that we might be born again unto heaven, unto righteousness, and unto God.” – A.T. Jones RH, July 18, 25, Aug 1, 1899
