Dedicate to “Fighter at Budo Mountain”:

The former Bannang Sata police chief, Pol Col Sompian Eksomya and his subordinate Pol Snr Sgt Maj Sophon Intarabovorn were killed in a roadside ambush on a narrow, unsealed village road in the district in Yala while on duty last Friday. Sompian, a Songkhla native, was known as the “Fighter at Budo Mountain” and also as “Iron Leg” - as his patrols were mainly on foot.

Pol Col Sompian died en route to hospital and Pol Snr Sgt Maj Sophon died at hospital. The two other policemen in the vehicle were also wounded.

His Majesty the King has signed a royal order appointing the late Pol Col Sompian Eksomya, 59, to the rank of police general. The royal order took effect on March 12.
