The Lord’s PrayerMatthew 69 所以,你们祷告要这样说:我们在天上的父:愿人都尊你的名为圣。 suǒ yǐ nǐ men dǎo gào yào zhè yàng shuō: wǒ men zài tiān shàng de fù: yuàn rén dōu zūn nǐ de míng

9 Pray like this: 'Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 愿你的国降临;愿你的旨意行在地上,如同行在天上。 yuàn nǐ de guó jiàng lín; yuàn nǐ de zhǐ yì xíng zài dì shàng, rú tóng xíng zài tiān shàng.

10 Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.

11 我们日用的饮食,今日赐给我们。 wǒ men rì yòng de yǐn shí, jīn rì cì gěi wǒ men.

It’s a Pattern• Jesus didn’t give it to us in English!

• We never repeat words without meaning.

• Think about what the words mean every time that you pray the Lord’s Prayer.

• Follow the order, the sequence, the pattern.

• Personalize it. Make it real for your life.

a. Our Father in heaven• We are all brothers and sisters with 1 Father.

• Every person on Earth has the same father.

• Who are you speaking with? Daddy. Baba.

• What’s special about him? His love is true.

• Where is your father?

– In heaven.

• Where is heaven?

– Here. Now. It’s invisible. It’s everywhere.

Page 6: The Lord’s Prayer

b. May Your name be kept holy.• What do you think of when you hear:

– Steve Jobs ?

– Michael Jackson ?

– Obama ?

– Hu JinTao ?

– Chairman Mao ?

– Adolf Hitler ?

– Colleen ?

– Jesus Christ ?

• Have you met them? But you know their names and you know much about them.

• You protect the names of those you love.

• This is our first request.

Page 7: The Lord’s Prayer

c. Let Your Kingdom come• The world was created as man’s kingdom.

• Man sinned and gave the kingdom to Satan.

• For 4,000 years, man failed to get it back.

• Then Jesus came and paid the price for it.

• Jesus’ people now have the right to rule, but

• We have not yet taken over as its true kings.

• We must do all we can, but Jesus will return.

• He will destroy all enemies on His return.

• Our second request is that this will be soon.

Page 8: The Lord’s Prayer

d. Let Your will be done• What does God want? Do we really know?

• The better we know God’s will, the better we will pray in an effective way.

• The reason we study the Bible is to discover the will of God.

• Old Testament stories always reveal God’s will in many different circumstances.

• Does God need our help getting His way?

• No. We ask God to help us do His will.

Page 9: The Lord’s Prayer

e. As in Heaven, so on Earth.

• Let Your will be done this way…

• What is happening in Heaven?

– Order, Peace, Joy, Love, Music, Praise

• Can that really happen on Earth?

• It can, if we have enough faith.

• This gives our third request objectives.

Page 10: The Lord’s Prayer

f. Give us today our daily bread

• So far, we’re only praying for God’s wants!

• What about ME? And MY needs?

• Yes, you need to eat to live. But just today.

• For 40 years, the Jews ate only “manna”.

• To trust God means to never worry.

• Tomorrow is a new day, if you live to see it.

• Use today to do what needs to be done now.

• Pray for (request) only what you need now.

Page 11: The Lord’s Prayer

g. Forgive us our debts

• The word “debts” is sometimes translated as “sins” or “trespasses” because when we break the law, we have to pay for it.

• It can also relate to money and possessions.

• It’s a terrible feeling to owe somebody.

• God is always ready to forgive us, IF we ask Him to.

• Everything we have was given to us by God.

Page 12: The Lord’s Prayer

h. As we also forgive our debtors.• God is always just. He is always fair.

• It’s not fair to forgive a debtor who is not willing to forgive his/her debtor.

• Jesus gave a few illustrations of this concept.

• If you want to be forgiven for hurting others, you must first forgive those who hurt you.

• Also, you should do everything possible to repair those whom you have hurt.

• This request is needed every time we pray.

Page 13: The Lord’s Prayer

i. Bring us not into temptation

• There are so many temptations in the world:– What we see - we want!– What makes us feel good - we want!– What we think about too much - we want!

• Giving in to temptations often means sin.

• I don’t want to want what God doesn’t want!

• My wants can be the opposite of God’s will.

• So, God, help me to avoid things I want.

Page 14: The Lord’s Prayer

j. But deliver us from the evil one

• There is an Evil One in this world:Satan, the Devil, Lucifer, the Angel of Light, …

• Satan’s kingdom has taken over the world.

• He lost the keys to Jesus, but he continues to rebel and fight against the God of love.

• The Thief comes to steal, kill and destroy.

• Everything “bad” comes from the Evil One.

• “Bad” will come to everyone, but have faith, our father is a powerful Deliver!

Page 15: The Lord’s Prayer

k. For Yours is the Kingdom

• Remember! The Kingdom is now God’s.

• This is not a battle between good and evil.

• This is a battle of evil against a good God.

• God can’t lose. And we belong to God.

• The Kingdom is huge, and if we are faithful, then, in the afterlife, we will be given cities to rule over. The more faithful, the more cities.

Page 16: The Lord’s Prayer

l. The Power

• Yes, God’s Kingdom is a guanxi system:

The better your relationship with your God and father, the more that you will rule over.

• God’s power can do the impossible.

• He created the whole Universe and the tiniest living thing. All things must obey Him.

Page 17: The Lord’s Prayer

m. And the glory forever.• Fame for the Famous One.

• All beauty comes from the Beautiful One.

• All love comes from the Loving One.

• All praise and honor belongs to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of the World, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Holy One Who reigns over heaven and earth forever.

• We give our father our loving words of praise.

• Hallelujah!

Page 18: The Lord’s Prayer

Amen

•So be it.•Let it be so.• It’s the truth.• I agree.•Yes!
