He finished the PedagogicalUniversity. In 1992 he was Included in the Russian nationalAthletics. In 1993 Vladimir madeHis debut at the world Championship in Stuttgart,Where he took 19th place in Walking 20 km.

In 1999, he finished third at the World Cup on walking, and a year later won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney in the 20 kilometer race.

In 2002, he twice won silver at the same distance - at the European Championships in Munich and the World Cup in Turin. At the world championships in Paris, he took part in walking for 10 kilometers and finished sixth. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 was the seventh in a walking 20 kilometers.
