Simplifying your English: using and.
Many Japanese students use and incorrectly.
The wrong way:
Today I went to the shopping and to the movies and
ate dinner with my friend.
13年4月29日月曜日
The right way:
Today I went shopping, to the movies and had dinner with my friend.
13年4月29日月曜日
The rule
Use ”and” before the last point in writing and in speech.
13年4月29日月曜日
Simple English: Use Active Voice
Active voice is strong and makes a point.
Which sounds stronger:
Toyota sold two million cars last year.
or
Two million cars were sold by Toyota last year.
13年4月29日月曜日
Rule:
(thing doing action) + (verb) + (thing receiving action)
For Example:
Nintendo's most innovative product was the Wii.
By using active voice, you are making a strong statement. This is perfect for presentations.
13年4月29日月曜日
Passive voice: When you want to soften the sentenceFor example:
Initially, Nintendo failed when they tried to diversify.
Great but a bit strong. Passive voice example:
The diversification of Nintendo was initially a failure.
13年4月29日月曜日
Rule:
(thing receiving action) + (verb) + (thing doing action)
For example:
The Wii was created by Nintendo.
In presentation and in public speaking, use active voice and simple sentences.

Fluency and PronunciationFluency is not about speaking quickly, it's speaking clearly. Slow down.
Read out loud in English, children's books are great!
Lose the katakana!
Listen to spoken English and copy it
If a word ends in a consonant, don't make a vowel sound.Practice difficult sounds.
Don't worry. No one's pronunciation is perfect!

And remember KISS!Keep it simple stupid!

Let’s innovate English Education in Japan!
What do you think about English education?
Are tests important?
How else can we measure English ability?
13年4月29日月曜日
Create English Education 2.0
In pairs, create a new plan for English education.
Choose a level - elementary, high school, university, adult - where is your interest?
It must be unique and innovative!
13年4月29日月曜日
Create a Personalised Learning Plan!
Create a plan for your English study. Be innovative, be bold!
You need a goal.
For example, Tatsushi’ goal is to go to Graduate school in an English speaking country. Shinya wants to one day make a presentation in English at TED.
What are you going to do to achieve your goal?
