Key Terms – ESBR SIP Session

• SIP LEG:

– A SIP Signaling connection between two devices

– The B2BUA terminates the SIP Signaling of each SIP Leg in an ESBR

– Each leg maintains its own SIP Signaling connection

• SIP SESSION:

– A back-to-back call through the ESBR using two SIP legs

• NOTE: SIP Legs & Sessions do not require DSP Resources

Key Terms – ESBR Transcoding

• VOICE CHANNEL:

– A Voice (VoIP) Channel designates the media connection in the call (RTP)

– REMEMBER: The media connection is separate from signaling (SIP)

– DSPs do the work of the codec function, so in a transcoded call, the ESBR converts from one

codec (e.g., G.729) to another codec (e.g., G.711)

– Voice Channel -> DSP resources for 1 bi-directional VoIP call

• TRANSCODED SIP Call:

– 1 Transcoded Call = 2 Voice Channels
