(tahitianisch Porinetia Farani, französisch Polynésie française),

ursprünglich Französisch-

Ozeanien, ist ein französisches

Überseegebiet in Polynesien.

Es besteht aus einer Ansammlung

kleinerer Inseln, Atolle und

Archipele im südlichen Pazifik

etwa bei 15° Süd und 140° West. Die

bekannteste und

bevölkerungsreichste Insel ist

Tahiti; das Atoll Mururoa, auf

dem französische Atomtests

stattfanden, gehört ebenfalls zu

Französisch-Polynesien.

Französisch-Polynesien besteht

aus insgesamt 118 Inseln und

Atollen, die zu fünf Archipelen

gehören.

French Polynesia (French:

Polynésie française, Tahitian:

Pōrīnetia Farāni) is an overseas

country (pays d'outre-mer) of

the French Republic. It is made

up of several groups of

Polynesian islands, the most

famous island being Tahiti in

the Society Islands group,

which is also the most

populous island and the seat

of the capital of the territory

(Papeetē). Although not an

integral part of its territory,

Clipperton Island was

administered from French

Polynesia until 2007.
