Web App vs. native App
Web Apps Native Apps
Explains Browser-based for smart
phone & tablet
Built for a particular device & its
operating system
Core tech.
HTML, CSS & Javascript Java, Object C or some other
programming language
• Downloaded from a
central web server
• support offline use
Download from a web store &
install on the device
Pros
Cross-platform
compatibility
Leverage device-specific
hardware & software
Can access & bookmark a
URL via mobile browser
• Can integrate with on-board
apps (calendar…)
• More compelling user
experience(GPS…)
• Run offline
Cons Require a connection
function
Across multiple devices, separate
version of the app

Hybrid Apps
Explains Native Apps with Web Apps inside
Core tech.
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and reuse it across different
devices
• HTML5 support on-board functionality
• HTML5 is supported on the big three platforms (iOS,
Android, RIM)
Pros
A custom native apps for different mobile platforms or
creating a single less-capable web app on any device via its
browser
• reduce development time and cost, minimizing custom
coding work
• To the user, a well-designed hybrid app looks very
similar to a native app
• A local storage can support to run offline
Cons Design issue: The web-based and native functionality
should blend together seamlessly
