Step one: lead in

• Focus attention on the picture. Present a picture of mine, then ask student “who is he?/ What does he do?” lead to “What does he do” , explain the meaning. Point out how to ask jobs. Then present a picture of their classmate. Ask the same questions.

• Because the people in picture they have known. So they will have more passion in answering questions. This activity will arouse students’ interests.

Step two: new words

• Go on to present the picture on the screen. The first picture is Jacky Chen. Then ask student “Who is he? What does he do?” then through picture to lead to the new words.

Who is he?

An actor.

• Through the pictures lead to the new words. Learn the new words and review how to ask jobs. Through the picture ,the students will learn the new words more directly and arouse their interests at the same time.

Step three: play a game to guess the job.

• Present a cartoon and let the students guess the jobs.

• Consolidate the new words of jobs.

Step four: finish part 1a and 1b

• Ask students to match the words with the people in the picture. Then point to the different people shown in the picture.

• Then Ask various students to say what they do as you point to each one. Says “now you will hear three conversations, the conversations are about three of the people in this picture. Play the recording, this time ask students to write a number 1 next to the person being talked about in conversation 1. have students put a 2 and 3 next to the people being talked about in conversations 2 and 3.

Step five: look and speak.

• Present a picture, then I will give an example: “ I am a teacher, but I want to be a policeman” then ask the student “ you are a student , what do you want to be in the future?” Name the students to answer the question.

I am a teacher,

but I want to be a policeman.

You are a student ,but what do you want to be?

I want to be a /an …

Step five: look and speak.

• At this activity, student can use the new words to make sentence and will learn the phrase “want to be”

Step six: make a dialogue

• Have the students ask each other “What do you want to be?”

• This activity provides open-ended oral practice using the target language.

Step seven listening practice Finish part 2a and 2b

• Call attention to the pictures. Ask different students to tell you what they see in each picture.

• Play the recording. Then write the number of each conversation below the picture, play the recording a second time. This time ask students to fill in the blanks with the jobs the people have now and the ones they want in the future, then check answers.

Step nine: Make a survey

• Ask the students to make a survey in group, practice “want to be” then report to the whole class.

Step ten: Chant

• Ask the students to read the grammar focus together

• This activity provides practice in reading the target language.

Interview 5 students in class. Then write a report about the jobs that different people want and write a report.
