Ins tan t connectedness i s a new phenomenon tha t has begun to reshape how pe op le perce i ve d is tance - downt ime has been min imized wi th the inc reased speeds tha t in fo rmat i on t ra ve ls , the phys ica l spa ces be tween in fo rmat i on ha ve become i r re levan t .

I wou ld l i ke to inves t iga te what happens to our percept i on o f rea l t ime and spa ce when we can t ra ve l th rough v i r tua l spa ce in an ins tan t . Unp lanned events used to happen in the t ime pe op le spent wa i t ing and ant ic ipa t ing in fo rmat i on . These wa i t t imes inc reased pe op le ’s awareness o f the i r sur round ings and fo rced them to respond to the s t imu l i in the i r immed ia te phys ica l spa ce , and fo rm or ig ina l ideas th rough exper ienc ing the i r own un ique percept i on o f the i r env i ronment .

The iPad , launched las t Wednesday takes ins tan t g ra t i f i ca t i on to ano ther leve l beyond the iPhone . App le s t resses the ease w i th wh ich users can connect w i th the i r impu lse des i res , e l im ina t ing any res is tance f rom t ime and spa ce . In a v ide o presenta t i on f rom App le , Sco t t Fo rs ta l l , the Sen i o r Vice Pres ident o f iPhone so f tware says , " I f you see someth ing , rea ch out and tap i t . You don' t even th ink about i t . Jus t do ."
