EVERYTHING IS CRYSTAL CLEAR – THE TRADE CONVENTION DEALING WITH WATER
DR NORBERT RÖTTGENDear visitors, dear participants in WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL 2011, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this key water management event, one of Europe's leading trade fairs for the water sector.
The increasing number of foreign exhibitors and visitors highlights the inter- national character of this trade fair. Once again it is a showcase for national and international water competencies.
The German water industry will show that water technologies, water manage-ment and capacity building “made in Germany” can help solve water-related problems worldwide, also by adapting to local conditions. This creates jobs or secures them for the future. The German Water Partnership, the umbrella organisation bringing together key players of the German water sector, has be-come a trademark.
As well as the trade fair there is also a broad programme of congresses and events on offer. For example, all key associations have joined together in congress wat + WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL to form one of the world's most extensive con-gresses to discuss current industry issues.
I am particularly pleased that Russia has been chosen as the partner country for this year's trade fair. We export a large amount of water technologies to Russia; it is currently Germany's most important trade partner. In autumn 2009 Russia set itself ambitious targets with the adoption of its water strategy and the “pure water” programme. This is geared towards more economical use of water
resources and a good water supply for the population and industry in the entire country. A further focal point is flood protection. Considerable investments will be needed to achieve these targets. With their products and services German com-panies can further expand their position in this area as a key partner for Russia.
I would like to highlight the special show under my patronage – WASsERLEBEN – Awareness Program for Young People. This show is designed for pupils, teachers and all those interested in obtaining an overview of the diversity of and problems related to water, the essential resource.
I would like to wish WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL 2011 every success.
Norbert RöttgenFederal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety
KLAUS WOWEREITBerlin welcomes the participants in the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL trade fair to this major industry gathering in the city on the Spree.
Water gives life – and is at the same time a significant economic factor with enormous innovation potential. Berlin is an ideal conference venue for this leading European specialist trade fair, since its own water industry and the close ties between research and production make Berlin an international centre of excel-lence when it comes to water.
I am confident that the trade fair will offer a superb setting for effective specialist and political exchange between the business community, scientists and policy-makers on the challenges of securing the world's water supply and approaches to dealing with future needs. I am also delighted that the conference is high-lighting the importance of environmental education and raising young people's awareness of water as a vital resource with its interactive show for the public, WASsERLEBEN – Awareness Program for Young People. The scarcity of clean water in many parts of the world and the resulting conflicts over access to it make this awareness key to peaceful coexistence in the 21st century.
In this spirit, I would like to welcome everyone taking part in the WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL trade fair and the congress wat + WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL and especially our guests from Russia, the trade fair's partner country in 2011. I would like to wish you all a pleasant trip to Germany's capital city and a memor- able stay that is both inspiring and productive.
Klaus Wowereit Governing Mayor of Berlin

The participants of the seventh Construction Site Day will have the opportunity to obtain compre-hensive on-site information, besides the conventions and the trade fair, about the state of technology in the economically efficient renovation, renewal and relaying of water, wastewater, district heating and gas pipes in public roads.
The Construction Site Day is mainly organised by the Berliner Wasserbetriebe and also includes construction sites of NBB Netzgesellschaft Berlin-BrandenburgmbH & Co. KG and Vattenfall Europe AG.
The delegates can choose among several tours covering different topics. The buses leave on Wednesday, 4 May 2011, at 9.00 a.m. in front of the entrance to Messe Süd.
