• This course is designed to give you confidence in speaking English through studying different topics.

• Your progress depends on your own starting level from the previous 1st year classes and how hard you study.

• We will also have regular short tests: Short Speeches, Team talking, Vocabulary test, Dictations, A Big Speech

• You will study topics from around the world using your four skills of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking

Course Assessment

1. Three Mini Speeches after every Unit: 3 tests x 5% =

15%

2. A Mid-term Paper Test: 1 test = 15%

4. Final Paper Test: 1 test = 15%

5. Common Speaking Test = 20%

6. Online Tests from Units 1,2,3 & 4 = 10 %

7. Attendance and Attitude = 25%

The Mini Speeches Tests 3 times - 15%

• These tests are designed to use some of the grammar and vocabulary into a speech that we have studied in each unit.

• The form of the speech can vary: Recitation, Discussion, Pair Presentations, Audience Presentations

• Try to memorize your speeches.

• The words and grammar will relate to the course book

• We will try to form word lists to help you in the lessons

The Paper Tests – 2 times30%

These tests are from the textbook and relate to the

Grammar, Comprehension and Vocabulary of each Unit:

The Mid-term Tests will be Units 1 & 2 = 15%

The Final Paper Test will be Units 3 & 4 = 15%

The Online Tests = 10%We will have regular support for classroom work using online homework tests during the year.

We have to sign-up for this online.

You should use your TCUE email and password – but any password is ok!!

You should take a Screenshot or Smartphone photo of the final page details and email the photo to me.

If you don’t know how to send a photo, ask your friend or do it together in a PC room.

Common Speech Test 20 %

One to One Interview

Speak with me for about 1 minute on a topic.

1:20 seconds to choose and prepare one topic from three choices

For example:

• Your Normal School Day

• Your Favorite Dish

• Something you are afraid of and the reason(s)

We will practice this test in many classes before hand
