vod)
-při absorpci tepla je N2O 310x efektivnější než CO2

scenarios of stratospheric sulfur injections as a measure to compensate
for CO2-induced global warming. The baseline scenario includes the burning of
5,000 GtC of fossil fuels. A full compensation of CO2-induced warming requires a
load of about 13 MtS in the stratosphere at the peak of atmospheric CO2 concentration.
Keeping global warming below 2◦C reduces this load to 9 MtS. Compensation
of CO2 forcing by stratospheric aerosols leads to a global reduction in precipitation,
warmer winters in the high northern latitudes and cooler summers over northern
hemisphere landmasses. The average surface ocean pH decreases by 0.7, reducing
the calcifying ability of marine organisms. Because of the millennial persistence of
the fossil fuel CO2 in the atmosphere, high levels of stratospheric aerosol loading
would have to continue for thousands of years until CO2 was removed from the
atmosphere. A termination of stratospheric aerosol loading results in abrupt global
warming of up to 5◦C within several decades, a vulnerability of the Earth system to
technological failure.
Do atmosféry je třeba dopravit 13 Mt síry.
Důsledky:
Globální snížení srážek
Teplejší zimy a chladnější léta
Pokles pH oceánů o 0,7 pH
Projekt musí trval 1000 roků, než poklesne
koncentrace CO2
Přerušení projektu zvýší teplotu o 5 oC
během několika dekád

Williams (1998) indicates an energy requirement for compression from 1.3 to 110 atmospheres pressure of about 400 kWh/tC
(1.44 GJ/tC). Haugen and Eide (1996) indicate that 55–60 MW of power would be needed to liquefy the CO2 produced by a 500
MW coal-fired power plant. Given a power plant efficiency of 33% and a coal emission factor of 24 kg C/GJ, this implies an
energy
requirement of 1.5–1.7 GJ/tC. Also note that, although this is a 10–12% energy penalty for theliquefaction of CO2 from a coal
power plant, it is less than a 2% penalty for the liquefaction of 71% of the CO2 released by steam reforming of natural gas. For a
steam reforming efficiency of 89%, a natural gas emission factor of 13.5 kg C/GJ, and 71% capture, the amount of CO2 that
needs to
be liquefied is 0.0107 tC/GJ H2, and the energy requirement is 1.6–1.8% the energy content of the product H2.
Harvey, 2004.

stratospheric geoengineering
may provide a substantial increased CO2 sink
to counter anthropogenic emissions. This increase in plant
productivity could also have a positive effect on agriculture
costs of three suggested methods of placing the aerosol
precursors into the stratosphere: airplanes, artillery shells,
and stratospheric balloons
Rather than cooling the entire planet, it has been
suggested that we only try to modify the Arctic
to prevent a sea ice-free Arctic summer and
to preserve the ice sheets in
Greenland while mitigation is implemented
the additional costs for infrastructure, personnel, and H2 would be
$3,600,000,000 per year, or $5.5 billion in 2008 dollars
