Helianthus debilis: to be changed in Helianthus spp. different from
Helianthus annuus?
o, in alcuni casi, dai tuberi.
H. annuus Autumn Beauty
A beautiful sunflower, wonderful for cutting. Many 15cm
flowers in brilliant red, gold, yellow, rust and burgundy.
Blooms over several months. Makes a wonderful display.
Tall, 2m plants.

Helianthus debilis: to be changed in Helianthus spp. different from
Helianthus annuus?
- which species is/are marketed as “ornamental sunflower”
- may we identify the different species by the seed?

Subject:
Submitted sample/purity sample sizes: multiplication factor between 3 and 50
For many species, the actual purity sample size is not in accordance with TSW
Samples size for flower species needs to be checked and likely changed.

ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development
Sampling: samples size (Table 2a part3)
Problems:
Data - We need more data on TSW
Seed size - For many flower species, we have varieties with very different
seed size. (e.g. Cyclamen spp. TSW from 4 to 12 g)
OSD – It is rarely requested, but sometimes it is

ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development
Sampling: samples size (Table 2a part3)
Possible actions:
- Collecting data
- Taking decisions:
base the purity sample size on the largest TSW (largest variety or
subspecies)? On an average?
base the submitted sample size on the purity sample size (e.g. 2X,
as it is for some species in table 2A part 1, e.g. Cucurbita spp.),
adding a general rule such as “when the OSD is requested, the
submitted sample must weight at least 5 times the weight listed in
column 2 of table 2A part 3”.
