It is a treasure for the excursionists because it offers them some striking views on the many sites of the Matese area

such as the Volturno and the Torano valleys. It is connected to the “Hell Valley” Path.

Moreover, all along this path there are some of the most remarkable monuments and ancient buildings (a mule track dating from the XVII century, the Convento of Santa Maria Occorrevole, the Hermitage la Solitudine, the ruins of the Monastero Cistercense ) all of great tourist interest.

The area around the Campanile di San Pasquale(St.Pasquale’s bell tower), located just along this path, will be realized a project financed by European Founds.

The class 4a AT, in the school year 2006/07, has studied especially the story, the architecture and the art of the Convent “Santa Maria Occorrevole”

The smooth path, located at about 1300 mt , offers the following opportunities :

• to see some of the most characteristic places of the Matese mountains, such as the Faggeta (the Beachwood);

highest carsic lake in Italy;

• to play ecologically compatible sports, both in winter and in summer (trekking, cross-country skiing, mountain bike).

In order to promote the ecological sports on the Park of the Matese mountain, will be realized a new shelter at the beginning of the path, according to the traditional architectural techniques.

The Torano and Maretto Source are at 197 and 200 meters from sea-levl. Their waters are descendant from Matese’s Mountains

This water system was built in 1949 and finished in 1960. Were realized 3 tunnel so kilometres long.

We have to protect the zone near the underground basin and the sources, to preserve the water from pollution.

The Torano Source springs in a wonderful valley like a canyon, one of the most impotant natural environment of Matese Regional Park

I primi decenni del Settecento rappresentarono il momento d‘oro della ceramica cerretese grazie all’arrivo dal Regno di Napoli, di maestri ceramisti provenienti dalla Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte.

The Geopaleontological Park of Pietraroja is considered as a treasure, because it is really rich in many and rare precious fossil relics.

The Matese mountainous massif, mainly made of calcareous rock, is rich in many fossils : the most significant are concentrated in the Geopaleontological Park of Pietraroja.

The Park has known an international renown, thanks to the discovery of the fossil relic of a little dinosaur, the SCIPIONYX SAMNITICUS, immediately renamed as CIRO, which has become later the symbol of the Matese Regional Park.

At the moment , with the opening of the PALEOLAB, the Geopaleontological Park of Pietraroja is enjoying a great increase in tourism, particularly school tourism.

The school ISISS of Piedimonte Matese partecipate every year, with its works ,in the didactic exibition “The Treasures of Matese Regional Park”, with the other schools of the network “Scuole Capaci di Futuro”
