Increase of Surface Waters

This map illustrates the satellite-detected surfacewaters extent in the southern provinces of kienGiang, An Giang, Dong Thap & Can tho asobserved from the Sentinel-1 SAR images acquiredon 16 & 28 August 2018. In the analysed area, anincrease of surface waters is observed mainly inagricultural and paddy fields areas. It is likely thatflood waters have been systematicallyunderestimated along highly vegetated areas alongmain river banks and within built-up urban areasbecause of the special characteristics of thesatellite data used. This is a preliminary analysisand has not yet been validated in the field. Pleasesend ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
