Welcome to our 2011-2012 Season of fantasy, stories and tales. John steinbeck understood that great stories
must be tied to everyday places, people and ideas. in the spirit of steinbeck, we hope that our story and the concerts we perform reflect the diversity and
richness of our region. Join this abundant harvest of musical masterpieces, climb the heights of emotion, and share in the grand vistas these works present. We invite you to hear Your orcHestrA perform great muSiC, liVe!

Listzomania was the press’s description of the dual talents of franz liszt. At once a “rockstar” pianist of his day and an imaginative composer of tone poems, his works encompass the breadth of expression on the keyboard and in the orchestra. this program presents both faces, the storyteller and the keyboard virtuoso. Zhengyu chen, 1st Prize winner of the “Jose iturbi” international Piano competition (spain) lends fury to liszt’s Malédiction.

Who cares? Max bragado-darman and Julio bragado-Young care. Along with friends from American ballet theater and new York city ballet, they deliver a magnificent performance of selections from the ballet by george balanchine, featuring some of george gershwin’s greatest broadway tunes (embraceable You, i got rhythm and others). We tip the hat to these russian/Americans with tchaikovsky’s famous symphony.

As the story goes, betrayed by his first wife, a Persian king marries one virgin every day only to behead her in the morning...until he meets sheherazade. An artful storyteller, she lives 1001 nights before winning the king’s love and her life. equally captivating is our storyteller, Met opera soloist ekaterina semenchuk, who also sings of enchanting summer nights.
