Physical shapes
Port physically may be of two types:
Male
Female
Male ports usually joined to wire and
have pin shaped.
Female ports usually joined by device
and have hole shaped and fits the male

Benefits of male femaleconnectors
Male female ports are stronglycoupled ports there for our
connection becomes more reliable
Small size
Low cost

Serial Port
Serial ports are universal I/O ports. They are available on almost every
computer.
Serial ports are slow, but they are
flexible.
Serial ports can be used for terminal
connections, printer connections,

Complication with serialport
You must set the communication speed(baud rate) of the device and the serial port.
You must set the correct form of paritychecking on the device and the serial port.
You must set the number of stop bits to beused on the device and the serial port.

Parallel Port
Parallel port is a simple andinexpensive tool for building
computer controlled devices andprojects
The parallel port is often used in
Computer controlled robots,Atmel/PIC programmers, homeautomation, ...etc
The simplicity and ease

IEEE 1394 Interface
The IEEE 1394 interface is a serialinterface standard for high-speed
communicationsand isochronous real-time datatransfer
Image data transfer up to 32MByte/s (400 Mbit/s interface)

PS/2 Connector
The PS/2 connector is a 6-pin Mini-DIN connector
Its name comes from the IBMPersonal System/2 seriesof personal computers
Introduced in 1987Serial data at 10 to 16 kHz with 1
stop bit, 1 start bit, 1 parity bit (odd)
