Digital transformation must penetrate into the DNA of Turkish industry
The concept of Industry 4.0, and the
transformation of the industry and
labour were discussed in the Future of
Manufacturing Summit that was organised
by MESS (Turkish Employers’ Association
of Metal Industries). Kudret Önen, Chairman
of Board of MESS, emphasised that a
contribution will be acquired by the objective
of sustainable growth of Turkey along
with the digital transformation penetrating
into the DNA of Turkish industry. Prof. Dr.
Sascha Stowasser, the CEO of Düsseldorf
the Institute for Applied Occupational
Ergonomics, drew attention on the fact that
the right time for the companies to shift to
digitalisation is ‘now’.
Future of
Manufacturing Summit,
in which the concept
of Industry 4.0 was
discussed, brought
the business world
together with the
expert academicians
and company
representatives.
Industry 4.0, which is
called as the fourth
industrial revolution,
was discussed in all its parts during the
summit. The guests were provided with
detailed information regarding the subjects
such as understanding Industry 4.0 correctly,
acting with the right strategies within the
process of transformation, the role of
Industry 4.0 in competition, the innovations
and opportunities that it will bring, and the
Turkish industry’s aspects of that require
improvement. The opening speech of the
summit was made by Kudret Önen, the
Chairman of Board of MESS. Emphasising
that a contribution will be acquired by the
objective of sustainable growth of Turkey
along with the digital transformation
penetrating into the DNA of Turkish industry,
Önen said that they aim to
contribute to the increasing
of the competition power
of the country by giving
support to Turkish industry
within this journey.
“THE RULES IN THE INDUSTRY ARE RE-WRITTEN”Kudret Önen stated as: “It is necessary to
continuously improve the business habits
taking digital technologies as basis. This
new vision has to penetrate into the DNAs
of all institutions and employees. Digital
transformation in production has to be
adopted as the business culture by all of the
rings of the production chain.” Emphasising
that the digital transformation is essential
with respect to Turkey’s reaching at its
targets of sustainable growth, Önen said
that they aim to contribute to the competition
power of the country by giving support to
Turkish industry within this journey.
Stating that all actors have to play their
parts as well as the Turkish industry has
to utilize the high technology so that it may
have a voice on producing technology, Önen
said: “The origin of the present inequalities
between the nations was the opportunities
for the past eras. Whereas those who
successfully evaluate the opportunities
today will indeed be the advantageous one
in the future.” Önen continued his words as
follows: “As a former industrialist, I see that
we have two important subjects for Turkey
at this point. I can explain the first one of
these as follows: We are rather successful
in particular sectors, and we have achieved
a particular position attaining competition
within the global economy. We need to
continue and enhance this. The other
one is that we need to attain sustainable
growth with the exports we carry out. As we
consider these two objectives, we cannot
ignore the change that comes with Industry
4.0.”

With the purpose of supporting the supply of qualified labour
needed by the metal industry, the project of Full Support to
Vocational Education for Turkey (METAD) that is conducted with
the cooperation of MESS and the Ministry of National Education
continues at full speed. Within the scope of the project, besides
the trainings provided to the teachers and school administrators,
opportunities of scholarships are being granted to thousands of
students.
MESS (Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries),
continues to invest in the future of the metal industry with the
project of Full Support to Vocational Education for Turkey (METAD)
that it has initiated with the purpose of supporting the supply of
qualified labour needed by the metal industry, and contributing to the
economic and social growth.
Within the scope of the project
that is conducted with the
cooperation of MESS and the
Ministry of National Education,
besides the trainings provided
to the teachers and school
administrators, opportunities of
scholarships are being granted
to thousands of students. In
addition, protocols regarding
school-enterprise cooperation
are being executed within the
scope of the project.
Within the frameworks of training
of the trainers, which is one of
the most important legs of METAD project, the administrators of
the involved schools are provided with management and leadership
training, and the teachers with in-service training.
FIELD SELECTION SEMINARSSeminars have been held in schools by MESS Foundation of
Education in order to provide the ninth grade students with
information regarding the selection of branches with the purpose
of introducing qualified personnel to metal industry. The information
such as job opportunities in metal industry, working environments,
the aspects to consider when selecting branches have been shared
in the seminar. 16 schools have been visited and almost 5 thousand
students have been contacted by means of these seminars.
SCHOOL-ENTERPRISE COOPERATIONWithin the scope of METAD
project, the studies in line with the
improvement of School-Enterprise
Cooperation continue at full speed.
Within the frameworks of the project,
cooperation protocols have been
signed between 18 enterprises and
21 schools in 9 cities. Counselling
events have been held and company
presentations have been made to the
students by the companies within
the scope of School-Enterprise
Cooperation Protocol.

Competence
Exam and Certification Centre), a subsidiary of
MESS (Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal

business world. SIBEM conducts the service of
assessing whether the workforce in the metal,
automotive, electric-electronic industries meets the
qualifications required by the industry, and whether
it meets the conditions needed by the enterprises.
SIBEM, founded on 28th June 2011, increases
the quality of the workforce, takes the qualification
of the workforce under assurance, and provides
contribution to growth and the national competition
