Why do we buy Mass cards? There is a long-standing tradition of buying Mass cards, or Mass offerings, in the
Catholic Church. Giving a Mass card is a beautiful way to show a friend or loved
one that they, or a deceased loved one, is being remembered in the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass.
But why do we give Mass cards? Pope Leo XIII, in his encyclical Mirae Caritatis,
explains, “The grace of mutual love among the living, strengthened and
increased by the sacrament of the Eucharist, flows, especially by virtue of the
Sacrifice [of the Mass], to all who belong to the communion of saints. For the
communion of saints is simply the mutual sharing of help, atonement, prayers and
benefits among the faithful, those already in the heavenly fatherland, those
consigned to the purifying fire, and those still making their pilgrim way here on
earth. These all form one city, whose head is Christ, and whose vital principle is
love.
Faith teaches that although the august Sacrifice can be offered to God alone, it can nevertheless be celebrated in honor
of the saints now reigning in Heaven with God, who has crowned them, to obtain their intercession for us, and also,
according to apostolic tradition, to wash away the stains of those brethren who died in the Lord but without yet being
wholly purified."
Most often a Mass card is given to someone when loved one dies. But Masses can be offered for someone who might
be experiencing some difficulty in their life, for a birthday or anniversary, or to mark some other important occasion.
Your Legacy to
St. Clare of Assisi
Parish
Many parishioners faithfully give to
St. Clare each week through our
Sunday offertory collection. When
planning your estate, and after
considering your family needs, please
consider a bequest to St. Clare in
your will. As we plan the future of
our parish, your thoughtful gift will
help St. Clare remain a vibrant source
of faith and service to our
communities.

Preparing the churches for Autumn
As we move into the fall season, it’s time that the environment
in our churches reflect the change of season. We are asking
parishioners to help us out with this enterprise.
If you have any grasses, plumes, pods, dried weeds, and
especially dried hydrangea Or other dried blossoms in your yard
or nearby field and you are willing to offer some of your bounty
to the parish, please contact Steve Obarski.
You may leave a message for Steve at the parish office, or on his mobile phone 856-236-6918 (voice or text),
or email sobarski@stclarenj.org.
Your donation may either be dropped off at one of the Parish locations, or Steve will arrange to pick things
up from you. As always, your generosity to the parish is greatly appreciated.
We are happy to announce that Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan has named Samuel J. Spoto, a member of our parish, to the Order of Deacon. The church rejoices in the commitment to the ministry which Samuel J. Spoto has made and we announce it to you with great joy. The ordination is to take place at 10:30 am on October 24, 2020, at Our
Lady of Lourdes Church, Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish in Glassboro, New Jersey. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions on the number of attendees allowed at gatherings, only those who receive a personal invitation are permitted to attend the ordination. Nonetheless, all of us can pray for our brother Samuel and all the deacon candidates who will be ordained.

Stewardship Lifestyle 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“The stone the builders rejected has become the corner stone…” - MATTHEW 21:42
Jesus was rejected by the religious and political leaders of his day, as well as ordinary citizens. Living a Stewardship lifestyle may cause you to be “rejected” by others in today’s society. For example, saying grace before a meal in a restaurant may attract some strange looks from some. But to others it is sign
that God is alive and well!

Justice for All Virtual Awards Ceremony You are invited!
While we cannot have our traditional Justice for All awards dinner in person this year, Catholic Charities invites all to view the ceremony
virtually on October 8, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The ceremony will highlight the work of our honorees: Bishop Dennis Sullivan, along with five local
Disciples of Mercy awardees throughout the diocese (to be announced). It is also Catholic Charities’ largest annual fundraiser, and the need for support is greater than ever. While the event is free and open to all,
Catholic Charities asks that you prayerfully consider making a donation, viewing the event sponsorship packages, or participating in the silent
online auction. All proceeds will directly benefit the poor and vulnerable in the Diocese, especially the thousands who have been struggling in the wake of the pandemic. For all information about the event, please visit:

Small Group Adult Faith Formation
By gathering in Adult Small Groups, we get to know one another in a unique, comfortable,
and casual setting. We take the opportunity to pray, educate ourselves
more fully in the faith, and find ourselves pro-pelled to share it. As a group, we encourage
each other to deepen our faith and integrate it more fully into our work and relationships.
Mature, well-educated Catholics is our goal! As a group, we choose topics of interest to all, and find “best” Catholic presentations of those
topics which leads to interesting, lively, and worthwhile conversations. We will begin this
year’s discussions focusing on The Apostles as found in the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles,
and our Catholic Tradition. Due to COVID, our meetings will be held virtu-
ally via Zoom. The first meeting will take place on Thursday, October 8th, 6:30 -8:00
PM. After that we will meet each Thursday at the same time.
Please join us for a very worthwhile experi-ence by contacting Maria and Bill Murray at
