Worldwide, there are 842 million undernourished people. That means one in eight
people do not get the necessary nutrients they need to live a happy and healthy life.
To put it simply, our goal at Action Against Hunger is to bring that number to zero.
Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organization committed to ending
world hunger. We work to save the lives of malnourished children while providing
communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger.
We have been saving lives around the world since 1979, and we are one of the leading
organizations in the fight to end hunger. We work in over 45 countries and help more
than nine million people each year, and with your help, we can reach even more!
Action Against Hunger: What We Do
What is a HALT Club?A HALT Club is a group of students who believe that if we work together, we can end
world hunger. Working to support Action Against Hunger’s mission, our HALT Clubs
promote awareness about global hunger, educate those in their community about
these issues, and raise funds for our lifesaving work. We know that students have the
power to change the world and that’s what the HALT Club is all about! Our HALT Clubs
are filled with the most innovative students in the country and every day they are helping
us save lives around the world.
IntroductionAt Action Against Hunger, we have the tools and expertise to end world hunger.
Now, all we need is you! With the help of students like you, we can win the fight against hunger.

HALT Club RequirementsStarting a HALT Club is easy and we’ve designed it so that your team can be creative with it. To make sure we can provide the support you need and that we have up to date information
about your activities, we have a few requirements.
Every HALT Club needs to:• Have one adult advisor
• Organize at least two fundraising events a year
• Start an online fundraising campaign page and incorporate this into your fundraising
• Complete 10 service hours that have an impact on local hunger. For example,
volunteer at a soup kitchen, organize a canned food drive for a local food pantry, or
organize an event with local hunger experts to learn more about the issues in your
community and what you can do to help!
• Send two reflection pieces throughout the year: one in December and one in June.
These reflection pieces should include what your club has been up to, how much
money you have raised, how many people you’ve engaged and how we can help.
• Share photos and stories with us from the work you’ve been doing-we love
highlighting our student leaders on our website!
• Engage your family members in one activity. This could be online fundraising,
organizing a parents’ evening where your club gives a presentation to parents about
Action Against Hunger, what you’ve been working on, and why it’s important, or any
other activity that gets your parents involved!
• In order to stay up to date with our ongoing work around the world, we ask all club
members to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter if you use these sites.
• Action Against Hunger is a first-responder in humanitarian crises around the world.
There may be times during the year when we ask you to help us to mobilize people
and funds if disaster strikes-we ask that you stay flexible and help us save lives
when it is needed most.

Getting StartedStarting a HALT Club at your school will take a few simple steps.
If you need help, our Community Outreach team is here to support you!
How Do I Get Started?1) Reach out to three or four other friends to help start your HALT Club.
2) Fill out our Enrollment Form to get connected to our staff.
3) Find an Advisor for your club-this could be a teacher, a counselor, a parent, or a
coach. An advisor can help get your club approved and can help with your planning.
4) Begin your recruitment. Is there a club fair at your school? Do you have a school
assembly that you can present at? You and your team should create a recruitment
strategy to spread the word and attract new members.
5) Once you have more than five interested participants, it’s time to set a date for your
first meeting. Make sure to develop an agenda for the meeting and stick to it!
6) Your club can determine how frequently you want to meet. Every two weeks is
a good starting place- but remember that you may need to be flexible during busy
periods like holidays and finals.
7) After you have met, you should hold an election for leadership positions. You
can decide which positions your club needs; we suggest a President, Vice-President,
Treasurer, and Secretary at a minimum.
8) It is now time to start planning out your year! Plan out your required activities outlined
on the previous page so that everyone in the club knows what is coming up and when.
Starting a club calendar online as well as a club facebook group are great ways to make
sure that everyone has access to the right information throughout the year.
If you have any questions (big or small!) email our community outreach team at
students@actionagainsthunger.org and one of our members will get back to you
shortly! Or if you’d rather chat on the phone, call us at (212) 967-7800.
