Historical BackgroundThe Hakka were originally immigrants from northern China who settled in the southern provinces.

Resulted in roughly a million dead with many more fleeing for their

lives.

Tianluokeng Walled Village 田螺坑土楼

Structure Round shape.

Each floor served a different function. The first hosts a well and livestock.

The second floor is for the food storage.

The third and highest floors are served as living spaces.s.

The external wall is typically 1 metre in thickness. The entire building could be up to three or four stories in height..

Every tulou has only one entrance.

The cluster consists of a square earth building at the center of a quincunx, surrounded by four round earth buildings figuratively nicknamed " 四菜一汤 , Si cai yi tang" (four dishes with a soup).

Ornamentations Decorated with laterns.

Main entrance of the tulou is pasted with a couplet. Houses' entrance also sticks with a couplet, especially during Chinese New Year Festival.

Waterwell can be seen everywhere in tulou.

The figure shows the view of tulou during daytime and night time. The contrast is because of the installation of LED spotlight.

structures are formed by compacting earth, mixed with stone, bamboo, wood and other readily available materials, to form walls up to 6 feet (1.8 m) thick.
